"Can I keep my man card until next time?"

Well I was thinking OK, but then I read...

"but my Wife wants me to get them fitted"

You're not exactly dispelling our fears about who is wearing the trousers here John! But OK, only if you bring the 964 Turbo 3.6 and your camera.

Tony has come back and said we've got until 20th of November to firm up numbers which is great. I think we are there if half the probables confirm.

Thanks for organising this Jason. I'll check in with PB re clutch - he had it last Thurs so I'm expecting the numbers shortly - will chase again tomorrow. Will definitely know before the 20th.

Just saw on TM that Ash has put his 964 up for sale!! Looking at a 930. Unfortunately it's in such mint conditon that its very unlikely to see a track day. Will be a good buy for someone though.

Just revisiting an earlier discussion did anyone manage to find a good Akl tyre fitter for tyres bought offshore? John, who are you planning to use - or will you attempt to do them yourself in order to regain your man card... ;-)

I'm planning to use Hyper unless a better suggestion comes up, but will watch them closely given the previous advice. That is why my wife wants me to do it.

Cheers John - was just about to place an order from Tirerack for some AD08's. Will do a quick scan around locally to see if anyone has these in the right sizes first

You may find the shipping cost a detracting factor. Your tyres are ~ NZD 940 (GST included). So far I'm at NZD 1,600 (GST included) for my Michelins and waiting for a shipping quote. It will have to be enormous to make it better to buy locally at NZD 4,000.

Yes, the problem locally is getting the right sizes. Hyper have various AD08s 17" for around $300/corner fitted which would actually be great - if they had 205/50 and 255/40 - but they don't!

The cost ex Tirerack with shipping & GST is looking closer to $2k for the AD08s assuming US$500 for shipping per Macca's previous advice.

You'll almost get 2 sets of the Michelins for the local price! Does shipping come down with multiple sets you think? Or simply relational to tyre qty?

I'm ordering out of the UK as I have other parts I need. The last time I got quotes there was no advantage in a bigger order. Airfreight is a combination of weight and volume. Tyres have a lot of both.

For fitting you could try the guys at "Wheelfixit" on the North Shore. They seemed like a caring bunch to me and are probably used to taking care with fitment as they've usually just reconditioned the wheel. They also said their method of balancing was better than most tyre fitters which I didn't really understand. They might also come to you for a fee as they do a mobile recon service too. As I have said earlier, I can't recommend that other joint based on my recent experience.

All of my 996TT wheels need some love. This sounds like killing two birds with one stone. Thanks for the name.

Just to record the cost. Airfreight shipping ex UK is NZD 4.70 per kg. Tyres for my 996TT are airfreight equivalents of 22kg and 24kg for front and rear tyres, respectively. So the total airfreight cost is NZD 450. Total cost to have the four Michelins sitting in my garage ready for fitting is ~ $2,050. NB: I went for the older N3 spec.

They've just done the alloys on a brand new car for a close friend and he says their service was exceptional. The owner is a guy called Nick and seemed to be doing every thing right. Definitely worth a call to see if they would be willing to fit and balance tyres. I'm sure the prospect of a bunch of potential customers for rim work would be appealing.

That's a great price landed John - and the freight is actually better than tirerack by the looks - yet twice the distance. Is it a mainstream supplier in the UK?

Jason - clutch booked to start next week subject to parts and no nasties on opening her up. So count me in as a definite starter for the 16th Dec.

Design 911 is the supplier. I sourced headlights and a headlight switch in July and they were very efficient so I'll take it a step further with this order. I have no problem supporting quality specialists working on my cars, like PB, but some of the parts prices e.g. tyres must have a big mark up.
