Any Rennlisters from New Zealand?

Point taken. The tenants have spat the dummy so all photos are a mish mash of historic ones e.g. You can see outside features that change, like stairs. The dehumidifier was there because we'd just had the carpets cleaned. Better not to feature it than have to explain.

New abode for Turbos
Ten years between purchases, but I sense still seen as excessive for NZ. Nevertheless, it's good to turn 50 and have an excuse to enjoy more than one of these great cars.

Hi John. Great to see plans coming together and great timing on the house sale.
Love the garage photo and just cant help but feel what a perfect rear view the 964T is. Such a compact package compared to the later cars and I cant help but think that aesthetically Porsche hasn't yet got it any better since in terms of optics....

We may yet use the 996 Turbo as our shared main DD. Right now it's my Wife's shopping basket. She's driving it everywhere. It's such as an accessible car for everyday use. That said, the '93 is the head turner and the one that assaults your senses when you get in it. Porsche should bottle old leather and hot oil, it works for me

Hi John. Great stuff. You've worked hard for this. Good idea regards freeing up some time and capital to finally have some down time with the family and enjoy a period of all those things you haven't been able to indulge yourself in for a long time.
I think the 996T as a daily hack is a great idea. Its done its dough and lets face it 95% of teh enjoyment of owning these machines is driving and living with them - frankly they cost no less in the long run to maintain and keep running whether they sit in a garage for long periods or are used. It would be alot of fun living again with a 911 as a daily driver - I long for that day!

Ha Ha! That's a bit if LOL. Keep those miles piling on. Its not really going to depreciate much in $$$ terms either way.
Slightly OT, Im not surprised we are seeing so many UK imports in the NZ market right now. I was offered a brand new factory delivered 991S this week from a UK dealer for what amounted to $165k nzd landed & complied. I have no idea what the NZ prices are but at 84k GBP MSRP for a base 991S including (now) 20% VAT you can imagine with the VAT refund on export covering the NZ GST + shipping + insurance + compliance + registration its an attractive option for a new car buyer! Heck you can land a 2000 mile RS 4.0 in NZ right now for $335k nzd when some guy on TM is asking 800k nzd for one. It really makes you ask why we get so tucked down in NZ for Porsches given we have no duties. This is an industry that is ripe for arbitrage when there is volatility in exchange rates. Shame we aren't LHD in NZ as with the ex US retail prices even lower than in Europe people would be landing 997.2 GT3 RS's new for less than 200k nzd!

I saw an ex UK 993 at Motorscience with a pile of rusted underbody tin, so I can understand the reluctance in bringing older examples in, but that shoudn't be an issue for newer cars.
I'm not sure what goes through the mind of those in that end of the market. Maybe they're the types that change cars every couple of years and prefer the convenience of dealing with the local cartel. Air New Zealand seems to have the same clientele. You pay through the nose for that extra comfort, at least with long haul.
How are the Targa plans shaping up?

I agree for older ex UK cars. UK Porsches tend to get used as daily drives for the first few owners - such is their reliability. But that's a negative later in life given the salted roads in winter. I think however if you picked up something 1-2 years old, gave it a good underside clean and inspection, it shouldn't really be any problem. Better still buying brand new eliminates that risk altogether and its as good a "nz new" if its never turned a wheel before hitting NZ soil.
My guess is with new Porsche car buyers in NZ that they are financed cars or on a lease back program. Importing a new GT3 from the UK would save you almost 100k nzd today but only if you are a cash buyer - and I suspect many of those that buy new exotics and flip them every few years when the next new thing hits the streets are often using liquidity/cashflow to finance their purchases not hard equity. Also such people have little time, patience or energy and knowledge to explore such options. Once you have a good relationship with a NZ main dealer and your flipping your rides every few years you probably find its quite a comfy and easy relationship although it comes at a cost...
The Targa planning is under control. We are all paid up, have accommodation booked and have just had the 2kg extinguisher and Monit T100 Rally computer fitted to the 993 by CCS. Its been fully checked over (not that it needed it) and its fighting fit and ready to go. We fly in a few days before the event, have the Trackit GPS fitted the next day after we arrive and then on to scrutineer. I'm not sure how we'll feel after 2900km of driving (950km on closed roads open speed stages) over 6 days but id imagine a). exhausted, b). relieved if we make it in one piece and the car doesn't break down or something given its 20 years old! and c). exhilarated. We had off a few days after the event for 6 weeks holiday overseas. If we survive the Targa NZ Tour well definitely be booking the Bambina in March 2013 without doubt! That would be a good one for you to contemplate as you'll be back by then...

Meticulously planned. Wouldn't have expected any less from you
I'm just waiting for a few things to click into place for my successor and I'm home for good, with a continuing career to fund my obsessions. The Bambina sounds like a good fit for a novice like me with a high mileage 996TT. Look forward to catching up then. BTW where are you headed this year on your travels?
