I hope they play fair with Nico, he did go into the grass at the start and the lug nut problem with his pitstop set him back, but hard to negate what Rubens had to say in February....

F1: Barrichello - ‘Get Out Of Mercedes, Nico!’

Rubens Barrichello has some advice for Nico Rosberg...

Rubens Barrichello says that Nico Rosberg is going to have a tough time as Michael Schumacher’s teammate, and when asked in Valencia Monday if he could offer Rosberg any advice the Brazilian said ‘Get out of there!’

While the initial comment was tongue-in-cheek, he went on to explain that his sentiments were genuine.

Barrichello was Schumacher’s teammate for five seasons from 2000 to 2005, before leaving for Honda when he felt he wanted to get away from the German’s shadow.

Rubens Barrichello was Michael Schumacher’s teammate for five seasons from 2000 to 2005. “It’s the only thing I can tell him,” he smiled.
“Drive fast, don’t crash! Ross would always tell you that before a race. He’s very talented and I wish him all the best. Maybe tomorrow morning you can see in the newspaper Rubens telling Nico to get out of there, but I’m not being bad about it.

“Knowing what I know, and seeing how fast Michael went today, it’s going to be a tough job. I wish him all the best because he’s a talented boy who can be World Champion. If he has the chances of being World Champion in the team with Michael, then he can be World Champion anywhere, let’s put it this way.”

Default Alonso stays on top in second practice

.

By Matt Beer Thursday, May 13th 2010, 13:30 GMT

Fernando Alonso was quickest again in the second practice session in Monte Carlo.

The Ferrari driver completed a clean sweep of the Thursday sessions by beating Mercedes' Nico Rosberg by 0.109 seconds, with Sebastian Vettel third for Red Bull.

After frantic place-swapping early on, Alonso returned to the front of the field with a 1m15.435s on soft tyres 37 minutes into the session, then increased his advantage by going half a second quicker on his next lap.

He stayed there for the rest of the afternoon, as light rain prevented anyone making improvements in the second half of the session.

The rain was never heavy enough to convince anyone to try intermediates, and most stayed out trying to learn what they could in the slightly slippery conditions. There were a number of close calls with the barriers and trips through the escape roads at Sainte Devote and the chicane, but no contact with the barriers despite all the slides.

Having spent much of the morning in the pits, Rosberg completed 38 laps this afternoon to take second, with his team-mate Michael Schumacher fifth behind Vettel and Felipe Massa in the second Ferrari.

Robert Kubica produced some spectacular driving to take Renault to sixth, having been among the many drivers to top the times during the opening half hour.

McLaren's low-key Thursday continued with Lewis Hamilton seventh and Jenson Button ninth, split by Force India's Adrian Sutil. Mark Webber completed the top ten in the second Red Bull, while only 0.8s covered pacesetter Alonso to 11th-placed Vitaly Petrov's Renault.

The second session saw more issues with traffic than the morning had, including an incident in the final corners where Massa appeared to be hanging back to get a clear lap and was caught by Heikki Kovalainen on a flying lap, with the Lotus diving inside the Ferrari and past into the last turn, seemingly to Massa's surprise.

The Finn ended the day as quickest among the new teams.

(J.J.'s words, not mine).

I wonder where the hell is Keke, he's usually quite "outspoken"...

Oh, and since it's Monaco, guess who's baaaaack?!
Well Nico moved forward in P2 , so we will "see" this battle at Mercedes

The young lions will prove to be too exhuberant for this circuit.. Vettel acting desperate for example.
A seasoned veteran will rise to the demands.
I pick Alonso. And I haven't seen any practice yet.

Surprisingly, MB had technical issues with Nico's car during the 1st session... Somehow in past I remember Ruben's (or Irvine) having issues with their car while MS never did... Coincidence?

Love to see Force Blue docked at it's usual spot in Monte Carlo.

Button's screen died at lap 3. He drove the car based on engine noise alone for the rest of the afternoon having no other information on engine revs, etc. Those cars have very little torque so bouncing off the rev limiter or short shifting kills your lap. Schumacher was good against a faster car, but the McLaren was severely handicapped.

Talk in the paddock this weekend is that Flavio has invited Kimi to bartend aboard his yacht....perhaps the hardest invite for the event.

Alonso looking very handy indeed today!

Here's one for the Mercedes/MS conspiracy crowd: Rosberg's comments on the matter (from Wednesday in Monaco):
