My honest question is how could Alonso and his race engineer not know?

Symonds or Flavio must have approached Alonso's race engineer and probably also Alonso and explain the crash strategy to them. It's the only possible explaination for starting a car in the 15th grid spot with only enough fuel to get to lap 12.

In the 15th spot they could put on any fuel load they wanted and they choose to go super light?? They had to be aware of the plan.

All I know is that Max Mosley is going to take out as many of his enemies as possible before he steps down next month.

Ron Dennis is gone.

I don't think Flava Flav will survive this scandal and he will be gone.

What do they have on Monti?

Amazing that you ask that. Yet more recordings are being leaked to the media. We now have transcripts of the pre-race meeting with Alonso, as well as the conversation in the pits shortly after Piquet's crash:

[The scene is behind the Renault garage area on the morning of the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix. Pat Symonds, Fernando Alonso and Flavio Briatore (now with two bimbos - scratch that - escorts) assemble.]

Symonds: [To Flavio] “Excuse me sir, you can’t listen to what I am about to tell Fernando… usual reasons…”

Flavio: “How about I let these two whisper nice things into my ears then? Just make sure you guys don’t talk about any naughty plans!”

Symonds: “Oh, no sir!”

[The two bimb-, uhh, ladies, start whispering sweet nothings into Flavio’s ears. Pat Symonds turns to Fernando Alonso and continues speaking.]

Symonds: “Fernando, we may have a situation…”

Fernando: “Oh, what’s that?”

Symonds: “Nelson said some very alarming things to me earlier this morning. He was proposing to crash…"

Fernando: “So, he crashes a lot, doesn’t he? Around this place with all the walls that is not unlikely…”

Symonds: “You’re not getting me, Nelson meant crash – ON PURPOSE!”

Fernando: “Good God! NO!”

Symonds: “I’m afraid so…”

Fernando: “But… but… why?”

Symonds: “He wants to help you by crashing on lap 13 or 14.”

Fernando: “How does that help me?”

Symonds: “By bringing out the safety car”

Fernando: “I don’t get it, why would a safety car help me?”

Symonds: “Well, because you would have made your pit stop on lap 12.”

Fernando: “Yeah, so? I still don’t get how a safety car will help?”

Symonds: [Exasperated sigh] “OK, just believe me that it would help you, OK?”

Fernando: “All right, all right… Well, we certainly must make sure that does not happen. I mean something like that would be akin to race fixing. I can have no part in such heinous behavior. It would be even worse then when McLaren forced Pedro and I to use that Ferrari data… Heck, it would be even worse then when McLaren held me in the pits during qualifying in Hungary which screwed Lewis out of a run for pole… God how I hated that… I felt so bad for Lewis… Geez Pat, is there anything we can do to prevent this?”

Symonds: “I strenuously emphasized to Nelson that he must not do this… I think he understood, but you never know with that guy…”

[Pat signals to Flavio that it is OK to listen in again]

Flavio: “So, everything hunky-dory guys?”

Fernando and Symonds: [In unison] “Yes sir!”

Flavio: “Great! You know, I have really high hopes for this race. I think Nelson is going to have a really good race, which would delight me to no end. You guys can’t believe how hard it is to convince him to sign on for next year. I keep asking him to firm up, but he keeps asking to extend the option… God how I would love to secure his services for 2009…”

_________________________________________________________________

[Two and half hours later, in the Renault pit area, minutes after the crash. Nelson is walking in from the garage area after being given a scooter ride back from his accident scene.]

Flavio: [Running towards Nelson with tears streaming down his cheeks, sobbing.] “Nelson, Nelson! Oh God… Are you OK, please say you’re OK… times like this make me want to walk away from this cruel sport forever…”

PK: “I’m OK boss, no worries, sorry about the car…”

Flavio: “I don’t care about the car… You’re what matters…”

PK: “Thanks. So, how’s Fernando doing?”

Flavio:
“Who?”

PK: “My teammate!”

Flavio: “Oh, him… I don’t know… I think someone said he’s moved up a bunch because of the safety car. Whatever… not really important…”

PK: “Hmm, that looks good… maybe he can win!”

Flavio: “That would only be a small consolation in consideration of the greater tragedy that has happened today. Thank God you are unhurt. Please sign with us for next year, I will only feel better once I’ve given you the winning car that you deserve.”

PK: “Well I’m not sure yet. I have to consider the other offers from Ferrari, McLaren and Force India…”

Flavio: “Force India? Even we’re better than them…

PK: “Yeah, well you know… I think their long-term development program is very promising. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them at the front by about Spa next year and…”

Symonds: [from the adjacent pit stall] “Ahem, Nelson, can I have word with you over here please?”

PK: “Sure…”

[Nelson walks over to Symonds, now out of earshot of Flavio.]

Symonds: “I have to ask you point-blank Nelson: Did you crash on purpose?”

PK: “Of course not! You told me not to do such a thing!”

Symonds: “You know I’d like to believe that, but I noticed on the telemetry that you were accelerating throughout the crash instead of braking…”

PK: “No sh_t!! You know, a similar thing happened when I was sixteen. I was backing my uncle’s Audi 100 out of the garage and when I meant to brake and accidentally hit the accelerator instead. I ended up plowing right into daddy’s AMG…”

Symonds: “Ouch… the black AMG?”

PK: “No the silver one. I thought I was dead for sure.”

Symonds: [winces] “No doubt… I think I would have left the country… Anyway, I’m glad that we sorted this out and we know that today’s crash was a true accident. I will now be able to sleep at night. I do have to say though, you really called it. A safety car did come and out this has really helped Fernando. You must be psychic… Whoda thunk?”

Agree and the same thing i said when Shoomacher and Benetton was caught cheating and he said he did not know They should have kicked him out then

I really hope they put the squeeze on FLav , it would be interesting to hear him squeal everything especially how many of the 7 WDC shoomacher stole thru such great strategy ....

The noose seems to be tightening....

Speed TV posted a report that sez.....

"Symonds evasive during questioning"

Pat Symonds refused to answer direct questions about the "Crashgate" scandal when interrogated by chief FIA steward Alan Donnelly and investigators for the Quest firm recently at Spa, it emerged on Thursday.

The complete article can be found on Speed's website under Formula One.

It's well worth a read.

Easy ,

Ask Williams they were able to do so after Senna's crash exonerating themselves..

Wayne, you crack me up. You're like a liberal screaming "it's Bush's fault" at every opportunity.

How about we discuss the topic of this thread rather than try to revisit the cheating that Benetton was accused of 15 years ago?

Or I suppose you could continue to invoke the "Bush defense" by bringing up MS every time Miss Alonso gets caught up in a controversy?

Yes you fit the description very well with your selective application , as you are now accusing Alonso of knowing about the crime but exonerate shoomacher when he was in the same situation ...

How could he not know they were cheating when they put an extra button on his steering wheel , or the removing of the fuel filter screen , i honestly cannot see how he did not know Benetton was cheating ..

What say you ? ......... Lippy

So Ray do you believe Shoomacher when he says he did not know that Flav and Benetton was cheating ?

Where the HELL is the connection with Schumacher and last year's race in Singapore ???

For once, why don't you...

Try to stay "On Subject" !!!

Constantly trying to deflect the focus from the subject by attacking past historical events doesn't contribute to the discussion.

Easy grass hopper, we are on target , this one is over your head, as such cheating by flav is not unprecedented hence the history lesson ( pay attn) and ray is accusing Alonso who was not involved or even mentioned......

get it ?

Briatore: Renault did nothing wrong

By Jonathan Noble Friday, September 11th 2009, 16:00 GMT

Renault boss Flavio Briatore has insisted that his team has done nothing wrong amid the Singapore Grand Prix race-fix controversy - after boldly predicting the truth of the matter will come out in public soon.

The flamboyant Italian broke his silence about the accusations made against him at Monza on Friday, as he told a select group of media that his decision to take criminal action against the Piquets was proof about how sure he was his team is innocent of the claims made by Nelson Piquet.

So keep reading the "facts" from the reporters ..........
