I would agree with some of these statements if we were talking about setting up/building a new race car. We're not though. Im refering to the purchase of a car that is not only already set up but one that has a VERY proven track record. If I were to use some of the logic Im seeing here I would then have to also build in the cost of my tow vehicle, the trailer, the two extra garages at my house and the lift and the tools and the....... I've "been through" 3 race cars and 1 DE car and I assure you I still have'nt spent what it would cost to purchase a new GT3 much less mod it up for DEing.

Doug, sell the GT3, find a well setup race car that fits your needs/desires and go racing!!! No matter how much it costs, to an extent, its well worth it. By the way, waiting for the economy to turn will also cost you on the purchasing end. I bought my car for $5k more than Im selling it for and thats after putting about $20k into it. Thanks to the economy!!!

racing is $$, but not so $$$$$$.
pick a car and class you can afford, one that you can write off and buy another one the same day.
i tracked a variety of GT3's but racing those are $ and if i had an major off... i would be rather upset.

i chose BSR, cheap to buy and race.
one race one, an acquaintance of mine took a bite out of it. i didn't give a rat's *** about it. kept going and finished the race. day two, on a different track, i kept going. now if that was one of my GT3's i be very concerned.

and even with a slower and much cheaper car, you will have fun racing. i haven't touched my RS for literally 2 months now after i got my race car. and for the last 6 years, i have never put less than 2k miles on any of my GT3 each and every month, until now.

Can someone comment on the lap time for a very competitive BSR (with good driver) at VIR (full course).

At Limerock, I will run the same tires that i ran at Lightning. My goal for Limerock is to get through a race weekend for less than $2,000. I can't wait to see if it is possible.

Hotel = 0 because i will go back home every evening
Commute gas = $50
Race gas = $250 because it is only a 3 days event including T&T (DE)
Tires = 0
Transportation = $250 to/from track for the race car
Registration for CR = $525
Registration for T&T (DE) = $175
Race prep by shop = $500 (fluids and muffler install because of noise restrictions)
Total = less than $2k... i bet you it will end up costing more than $2,500...

By not buying tires for Limerock it means that i will have to buy 2 sets for the Glen... nice...

Fred,
Please update us post race. I've never gotten out of a shop for $500, but did get out for Sebring at less than $1k.

Best of luck that weekend.

I will. This will be an interesting experiment. As for the $500, i already have new pads and rotors on the car or my spares box. All i need is an oil change and brake flush (I think/hope). That is because i spent lots lots lots more making the car work right last year

Fred, you forgot to include dinner with the boys at the Boat House (LRP) on Thur. and Friday night.........

It is a long standing tradition...... just ask Gary and Sean.......

That will take you easily over the $2k mark.........

Top E class time is 2:13.657. I'd figure a well driven spec boxster could be somewhere in that ballpark.
