Thanks. That is very interesting given the limited HP.

The weight for a spec boxster is now down to 2650 (including driver). So, in power to weight terms, they would place among the better cars in E class.

Does spec boxster fit into E? The weight limits for a boxster in E stock are still published at around 2900 lbs in the 2008 rulebook.

Spec Boxster is a separate class and is not part of E class. However, E class results are a good approximation of what is possible in a spec boxster (IMHO) due to the fact that boxsters are allowed in E class, and a Spec Boxster would have a competitive power to weight ratio within E class.

The official Spec Boxster rules allow quite a few mods that are not allowed within the PCA stock classes.

You think? The stock boxster, running at over 2900 lbs is what's classed in E stock. Seems to me that the same car with 250 less lbs and other mods would have a pretty significant advantage. Times for a spec boxster should be faster than an E stock car.

Possibly faster, but not hugely so. Most (all?) of the mods that are allowed in the Spec class but aren't allowed in E class are removal of items for weight reduction purposes. So, there aren't HP mods that are allowed in the Spec class that are not also allowed in the stock class.

The Spec class mandates PSS9's for the suspension, rather than allowing the gamut of suspsensions in the stock class. So, the Spec class loses a bit in that regard.

So, while the Spec Boxster may be slightly faster (or slightly slower) than E class, I still maintain that E class is probably the best proxy for Spec Boxster times.

I think someone ran a 2:17 or 2:18 at the NASA event last month in a SPEC BOX. That doesn't mean it is a great time, but just a point if reference.

In addition to what Brian said, the spec also requires R888s and doesn't allow LSD.

Look at last years VIR club race, E class was around 2:17 / 2:18. I raced NASA in Feb. with a Spec Boxster and consistently ran 2:18 / 2:19 in a race group of 60. All winter I have been running 2:17 at VIR in weather between 38 and 55 degrees. I believe 2:15 is easily reached on a warm day and hot track, good luck turning a 2:13 in a race let alone a DE. Fired off consistent 2:17's last Thursday at VIR. Let me know if you ever want to take it for a spin there, no problem, it's for sale.

thinking that i am going to sell the 997 GT3 and go with a boxster E or F class car. makes most sense. as much as i love the GT3 i only use it for DE's. living in NYC and keeping it up in Blauvelt severly limits my use of it anyway and it is not fun driving it in and out of NYC. i figured i might as well get a car that gives me the option to club race and i can still do DE's as well. hopefully i can try my 1st club race at lime rock at the end of april!

ps, anyone want to buy a GT3? (its the car in my avatar)
