(UPDATED - more video of Dave B "showing me the line" in his linen/grey C2 club racer. Updates in blue)
Thought I'd share some of the fun I had at an incredible event.
First day was wet, and learned a lot about the limits of a 930 (no ABS or other acronyms). Second day was a blessing and mostly dry. Hoosier time!
Dave Bassett, VP DE CVR PCA, "took me to school" and showed me his line. Apparently Dave's motto is: "I don't need no stinkin' warm up lap." (video is broken into 3 parts for size limiations)
New: http://www.zippyvideos.com/898276191...ntil_slow_car/ That man is fast through the turns!
New: http://www.zippyvideos.com/259979069...asing_dave_1a/
New: http://www.zippyvideos.com/400254650...hasing_dave_2/
Then I passed him and never saw him in the mirrors ....
Do I flunk for that?
http://www.zippyvideos.com/937162897...-with_traffic/
First run after the rains cleared:
http://www.zippyvideos.com/789200090...he_re-start_2/
And one lap with no traffic:
http://www.zippyvideos.com/635764416..._unencumbered/
Still learning the car and the track, but got in a 2:19. Thanks to those that gave a quick passing signal. It really helps carry the momentum.
Car is stock, except for the mods. Driver is stocky.
Input/feedback welcomed!

Thanks Gary! Great sharing the garage with you.
You'd be lethal with more power!
And I'd be toast!
Still need to get on the gas/boost sooner out of the turns. Also afraid of ramming into the back of slower cars, or when they use their beefier brakes. Hence my early braking.
If I could only hear what the other drivers are thinking .... "here comes that friggin' purple thing again"
Not making many friends I guess.
See you out there!

Nice vids Glenn. That car is a monster, glad to see you really driving it. Must make driving easier when you don't have to worry about being passed and waving your arm around

Thanks Don and Mike.
I love the Glen. Perfect for stretching those legs. I'd still like to see what 5th gear would yield though ....
Oh, was I supposed to let others pass me!? I swear they're going to bump me into another run group - not because of talent - just due to the stupidly fast motor. In the meantime I'll hold onto the wheel with my left hand.
Cheers -

The steering wheel and my hand block the speedo, but it looks like I got it to 150. Weird shaking/vibration I guess at those speeds, but didn't notice it. Just worrying about getting hard on the binders for the us stop.
Have a great 4th!

Slappy, LOVED your recount of the the Glen with a great instructor, John Schnabel.
I forwarded to John and Gary R as I'm sure you know. You captured the joy we all experience on the track when we push ourselves and the car further than we thought possible.

Not bad for a white group driver, but if you want to see how to get a turbo around the Glen check out 38Ds video, click here. Notice the deep braking, earlier apexing, carrying momentum and lots of early power. Keep working on it!

Wow. That was phenomenal. Thanks!
Scotto is amazing, and Colin stays right on him. I had Bob as an instructor in Yellow, then got the gift of a ride in his rocket. He's amazing, and seems like a natural. Colin has provided good input on suspension as well.
I see what you mean about deep braking and early power, but why is early apexing good? Does it assume the early power will help the rear turn in, basically stick better and do a tighter arc without increasing the steering arc?
My brakes are ok but not super. Had to go early and gentle application to keep from lockup - so I might need some work there.
I do notice that I allow more distance from the leading car through turns - which means to get back on the power sooner, and probably not brake as much, right?

Glenn, as far as the video that you saw, it was with 2 experienced drivers, and so Colin was not concerned that Scotto would "check up early", therefore he could brake as late as possible even though he was right on Scotto's tail. Not something that you could do in the White group. Maybe not even something I can always do in the Red group. It's more of a racing thing, knowing that the driver in front of you is going as deep into the turn as possible.
With respect to apexing, you want to late apex as early as possible. That will allow you to enter the turn as fast as you can, and keep your momentum up, whilst still having enough road left to accelerate through the turn. If you apex too late, you are slow into the corner. If you apex too early, then you will run out of road if you go for early pwer. None of this helps the car turn in though. You have to do that by trailbraking, and the resultant rotation will help the car continue through the turn as you get on the power. Otherwise you end up with understeer and have wait to get on the gas.

Larry,
Great point about the level and predictability of drivers. Thanks for the note.
In the video I can now see where I can get back on the gas much faster. It looks like a Sunday drive compared to Scotto and Colin.
Dave Bassett, VP DE, instructor and club racer, showed me his line for several laps. It made a huge difference in my driving:
1) I knew that he knew I was right behind him, whatever my position
- when I can't see eyes/helmet in their rear view mirrors I give extra space
2) He was predictably late braking - so I could follow him deeper
- there were some very early and excessive brakers (my opinion)
That predicatbility built trust. It was a faster lap but I also felt safer.
I don't fully get the point about late apexing early, yet. I think I'll ask a few friend/instructors to walk me through it, or do a test drive. I get the benefits of what you're saying, just can't visualize the path of the car.
On reflection, I wasn't trailbraking enough. I do it at Lime Rock, but didn't do enough of it at WGI. I know what you mean how that rotates and sets up the car well.
So in the toe, I guess I should be trailbraking more, let it rotate, come in lower .... I was trying the high line, early turn to clip the cone, but always plowing and not being able to get fully on the gas. Thoughts?
