Aaron and I were Zone Reps together for a couple years. He's a very good guy that cares a lot about PCA. In a volunteer organization, leadership walks a fine line between providing guidance and taking charge/overruling a decision because sometimes those volunteers walk away. And not just the situation at hand- your decisions affect everyone in the organization quickly.
If you only knew what went on at the EC level in PCA you'd be amazed. They deal with so many behind the scenes things that membership never knows about (which is good). Hopefully this situation will help make some policy changes - maybe call it the Luigi clause?

Three Wheelin'
https://comprehensivesleepcare.com/2...d-sleep-apnea/
"Researchers from the American Transportation Research Institute of the American Trucking Associations found that almost 28 percent of commercial truck drivers suffer from Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). Sleep Apnea is a health issue for many, but truck drivers are becoming increasingly concerned that a Sleep Apnea diagnosis will prevent them from doing their job."
https://truckingresearch.org/2016/05...e-sleep-apnea/
Very interesting topic that has nothing to do with PCA Club Racing, except maybe for those driving long distances to and from races.
I just don't understand how mandating the provision of treatment data can make any sense unless. Did they go on a search for ways to get some type of "proof of treatment" for all medical conditions?
How about mandating breath tests for drugs and alcohol?

That being said, there are people involved in this matter who are more concerned with being right, rather than doing what is right.
The prime example of this is Harry Kintzi, who keeps defending his use of DOT trucking standards, as well as the medical committee's policies and procedures, even though they make no sense and keep no one safe. I've offered up a couple of solutions, which would be reasonable by anyone's standards, and he refuses to accept them. The PCA general counsel then whispers that it is a liability to overrule the medical committee and they move onto the next victim.
Make no mistake, this guy is actively defending his position and fighting me at every turn. I hope he is reading this and understands that I'm holding back in the hopes that PCA creates a solution.
I'm just tired of having to deal with this stupidity and fight a battle where the only response is "because we say so."

email sent. I'm not an MD, but having been in PCA racing, my offspring also having raced in PCA, having been chair of the DE program in my region, I can only hope for some type of resolution to this matter.
Who knew that Luigi's avatar and quote of "Wrongly Accused" would be accurate?

Thank you to everyone for the many letters of support written to PCA. I hope they are listening.

Todd, I am so sorry this is happening to you. Your passion for something you love is remarkable.
Since a Doctor will prescribe a CPAP machine for anyone who sneezes twice, and if everyone who uses a CPAP were disqualified, there MIGHT be two racers left on the track
Since I am late to the party and have only read about 80% of the thread, these thoughts might have already been addressed.................
Has anyone PM'd Graham Rahal or someone similar in the house to get a copy of their medical form? Chain of command? Procedures?
When a pilot goes for his physical, he needs to see a Doctor who is certified to give them. So information is between Doctor and patient (no HIPPA violations), no third party interference ~ of course, the pilot can appeal a Doctor's directive.
What medical conditions does FAA consider disqualifying?
One of you wonderful gents escorted me home from IMS a few years back ~ Canadian plates, IIRC. Trailer in tow and haulin' a$$ (90/95). Copilot was passed out in the passenger seat. Don't think there was any problem with sleep apnea going on
I would think that the bigger man would say, "Let's take a step back and look at this from all angles and see what other organizations have to say on the subject."

- Angina pectoris.
- Bipolar disease.
- Cardiac valve replacement.
- Coronary heart disease that has been treated or, if untreated, that has been symptomatic or clinically significant.
- Diabetes mellitus requiring hypoglycemic medications.
