Let's face facts: the medical committee are morons. Morons are usually utterly convinced of their own infallibility.

A change of leadership is clearly needed.

I doubt that these doctors are morons. Few doctors are morons. But their position on this particular issue is clearly wrong, and they seem to be rather arrogant and drunk with their perceived power. I don't think a change of leadership is needed, they should just eliminate the medical committee; PCA doesn't need to have such a committee.

They are morons. That doesn't mean they are stupid or unintelligent.

And...a change of leadership is needed, else the medical committee would have already been disbanded, and this issue would not still be lingering into its 3rd month.

It isn't only Harry Kintzi and the medical committee; it's PCA's legal counsel Ken Laborde. He had told PCA leadership that there is a legal risk to overrule the medical committee so even the people we elected are unable to overrule the medical committee. It is ridiculous that these unelected people hold so much power and the people we elect to represent the members have no power.

I will also note that the only publicly available written guidance provided by the medical committee is the concussion policy. Beyond this one piece of paper there is nothing which says how the medical committee was formed it just sprang into existence. What member asked for this? What problem did PCA have involving a racer where they said "we need a medical committee?"

I will also note that the medical committee just makes up rules as they go along. Below are the medical conditions that require additional information, and even though sleep apnea is not on the list, they are requiring more information.

We need leaders who are going to listen to members - not appointed bureaucrats drunk with their own self-importance. We deserve a change.

IMPORTANT NOTES: Medical forms from candidates having the following conditions must be referred to the PCA Club Racing Committee for review. Medical forms requiring referral must be received in a timely fashion.

Less than 20/40 corrected vision in the better eye
History of Syncope or loss of consciousness
Psychological problems
Loss of color vision
Epilepsy
Implanted Defibrillator
Blood pressure: Diastolic over 90, Systolic over 160
All gross deformities including loss of extremity or eye
History of any cardiac problem or Stroke/TIA
Diabetes
Alcoholic or drug addiction
Any examiner concern

I believe in common usage most people say someone is "acting like a moron." We rarely call actual morons morons.

If we include the recognized slang definition, moron is also defined as a "foolish person". That is the application here.

Point is that these docs are likely intelligent people. They’re acting foolishly for reasons unrelated to intelligence. Their being intelligent may make the problem worse, not better.

Not corporate - just pointing out the irony of using words to insult the intelligence of a whole group of people, and then claiming those words don't mean what they actually do.

Words matter! Lucid, well-reasoned arguments matter. Insults ... meh. Its counterproductive; make it's easy to write off those well-reasoned arguments.

(But it's the internet so I get it).

This is the frustrating part - I didn't start off screaming and ranting. I tried debating the medical committee with reason and logic. I asked questions. I said "just give me one reason why using a DOT standard makes sense and I will go away."

Nothing. The only answer I got was "because we say so."

If they won't engage on the facts they force me to get sharp with my words, and I have not even started to get sharp with my words yet.

We need about 5000 signatures put a referendum on the ballot to change the bylaws. That's a lot, but if 50 people helped to each get 100 signatures we could make short work of this and get rid of the medical committee.

I'm waiting to see where this goes, but I won't give in. Not out of spite, but because I think PCA is a great organization, and I hope that we can make them start listening to members again.
