I’m a 25 + years track marshall at the Canadian GP and i remember the first year they came out with their new engines regs , the cars sounded like lawn tractors and you didn’t even need ear protection trackside … i personally have no use for electric cars and i really hope they don’t go back to that lawn tractor sound or even worse that awful Formula E whine/ whistle noise with the 2026 regulations.

Cheers
Phil

Eww, really? Is this Formula Freight Train?

Don't worry about the sound, I have it on good authority that the exhaust note will come from Electric Ladyland

Was driving back to IA from AZ the last couple days, taking a R8 V10 RWS my son bought to his house, enjoying the sounds right behind us, especially on the sparsely traveled roads of eastern NM, and of course it brought back the fond memories of the past eras of our sport. Then this AM I read about the "sustainability" goals F1 is reaching. We are all F1 fans here- for our niche sport, how many really care if F1 is "saving" the world????? Is it just all marketing from the "greenies" in the various manufacturers? And they are in the majority?? Sure I'm an old f*rt, but what am I missing??

(Newey's recent interview was certainly interesting- wish he ran the FIA)

F1 is a city that moves around the globe on trucks and airplanes but somehow they are more concerned with 20 cars driving on track than all the support vehicles. It is ridiculous.

Make all the support vehicles electric powered, or whatever, and give the F1 cars a V12!

From working with some OEMs on various projects, the race car sustainability/performance/developments really do make it into production cars. So much of the lean burn developments and things stem from the racing requirements. Is it extreme in what F1 does....probably.

Are there any MotoGP fans here in the F1 thread? If you are, did you see and hear the commentary on the COTA race this past weekend? Besides Liberty Media buying the rights to MotoGP, unbeknownst to me, some F1 engineers were brought into the Aprilia factory team and asked to work on ground effects on their bike. Apparently the results are starting to pay off and the other manufacturers are trying to copy what Aprilia has done.

It may seem silly that ground effects on a motorcycle make any real material difference, but this past weekend Vinales won the sprint race on Saturday and then went from 11th at the start of the race (bad start) and not only managed to work his way all the way up to 1st, but the way in which he did it was smooth as butter as compared to the other riders. Typically Motogp bikes get all out of shape as they get into the braking zones, but the Aprilia was as if on rails and very controlled. It also had more edge grip in the corners than its competitors and able to take any line it wanted including the more important tighter line coming out of a tight corner for bikes.

Anyone else follow this?

That one pass he did on the inside to get back into first was ridiculous. I am a Fabio fan and it has been a rough few years but what Aprillia did these last couple weeks should be interesting. Ducati has been dominating for a while and over night Aprillia came to play.

Yea it’s amazing how that bike was on rails. Something I forgot to mention was the fact the ground affects have had on the balance of the bike and that balance keeping both front and rear tires within the optimal operation range. It’s fascinating stuff when the F1 world collides with MotoGp.

PS: I’m a big Fabio Quatararo fan too and wish he was on one of the European bikes so he could be competitive but he just resigned with Yamaha for another 2 years (they tripled his salary).

Sorry for the MotoGP talk, we’ll get our own room now, just thought the crossover with F1 was super interesting.

I’m a Moto GP fan as well , those riders are animals.I’ve had quite a few bikes and motocrosses in my younger days and probably
used up most of my nine lives …
Valentino Rossi as a 9 time Moto GP champion is doing rather well in his new four wheel career in the European GT Challenge , with his talent he transitioned pretty fast
into auto racing !

Cheers

We are trying to have a conversation about Lewis' fashion choices and you are interrupting us with posts about racing. Get your priorities straight!

It’s been a slow week in terms of news out of the Red Bull camp as it relates to the Jos/Hornier/female employee threesome so we have to generate interest somehow.☝️

Hard to say, I’m too busy looking at the grid girls, umbrella girls and all the rest of eye candy to notice what the guys are wearing.

maybe I should start watching MotoGP. It doesn’t sound like it’s gotten as woke as F1.
