I had 308 as well, mine was a GTB. I bought it dirt cheap during the market crash in 2009. I loved looking at it but never liked how it drove, sold it because of that and the ridiculous prices for parts/service. I have never thought about buying another Ferrari. They just don't appeal to me aesthetically for some reason.

It was percolating before Enzo died. I remember when Ralph Lauren bought a 250 GTO for $660,000 in 1985 from our local dealer, and we all went crazy then. Hah!

But yes, you're right in the fact that it really took off after his passing in August of 1988.

They've added 50% more employees at the factory, and they sell out of only about 170 dealers, a fraction of Porsche.

Some of the merch sales include destinations like Ferrari World, their tremendous growth and expansion energizing the huge owner base of older cars, services like Classiche, extended luxury experiences like tours, classic car events and driving experiences run by Canossa Events and the worldwide syndication of the Cavallino Classic.

It's a machine, a very successful one. I was in RACE at $81...

That GTO is worth the moon and stars today, as is the N.A.R.T. Spider that Lawrence Stroll paid $27.5 million for in 2013.

They were the 308's red-headed stepchildren, at least in US trim, overweight and underpowered.

It is insane tracking the values of these cars. Two have now sold privately for more than $70M, one of them for more than that PLUS a 250GT SWB in part trade! A lot of money around...

Yeah, I used to think so. I installed BAE turbo kits on a few in the mid-Eighties, which perked them up pretty well. Now, I really like 'em. The carbureted cars that came before were over a second quicker 0-60 mph, but they are well balanced, simple, relatively inexpensive to maintain and rock solid dependable.

Plus they look killer with 16" rims, a deep Euro spoiler and black Boxer bottom paint.

Not all of that is salary. John Elkann personally negotiated the deal and a large part of it is the Agnelli family’s holding firm Exor setting up a foundation and trust for some of LH’s charitable initiatives.

Make no mistake, this now puts LH in the top-10 best paid sportsman in the world, and doesn’t include all of his personal sponsorships, but there’s a bunch of in-kind compensation going on.

Now Sir Lewis will be able to buy Taylor Swift's jet, and enough carbon credits to use it...
