I would just swap them. Sainz to Mercedes for one year.
Sainz has long been rumored to be joining Audi F1 when they come in 2026 so he could go to Sauber (soon to be Audi) for 2025, it could all work out fine in the end.

I started seeing the announcements on social media this morning and kept thinking it's February 1 not April 1! I still honestly don't believe it.
Yeah I didn't think there was any way it was true. One of the podcast I listened to indicated both teams and all four drivers were aware last week. And Charles knew before signing his contract.

i don't want to wait 13 months before this actually happens. based on the clause in his contract, we got this news much earlier than we normally do. silly season starts Feb 1st.

Hate to break it to you Moe, but it's at least 3 years and an option for another (2024 with Merc, then 2 more years with Ferrari and an option for a third). The goal for an 8th WDC is unrealistic because there is nothing that leads us to believe Ferrari can do that coupled with his advanced age and diminished skillset. His goal was to have a final drive contract with a storied team and get a bigger pay check than he could at Mercedes.

I’m saying two, unless Ferrari gives him a sniff of getting 8 WDC. One scenario is that Ferrari continues its diseased strategy calls. After one year of that, he will say I’m out of here, and retire. Scenario two is that Leclerc spanks him and makes him look like an average driver. Again, he will say I’m out of here, claiming some medical condition that prevents him from competing at a high level. Or he will claim that he isn’t getting the same upgrades as Charles. Scenario three is that he’s so dreadful and disruptive at Ferrari that they terminate his contract and bring in some young promising hot shoe.
