I love the concept and I'll likely try one out. My primary concern is the gap between promise and reality when it comes to Garmin. I've run with their GPS watches for a decade and they still have so many bugs it can be incredibly frustrating. I mean it's 10 years in and basic syncing of days is still a regular issue!

There was a nice blog post explaining the difference between companies focused on adding features versus those focused on making the existing features reliable and reproducible. In my experience Garmin is the former. The AIM software leaves a lot to be desired but the hardware sure is reliable...

I love the fact that it does not require a laptop. I would think for club racing this would be especially handy when you are required to present video to the scruts ... just pop it out of your car and take it with you..

Just curious how everything is hooked up? I ended up running 12v to my camera that is also energized by the ignition, this way I don’t have 20 min of video getting into the car, and sitting on grid. As I leave grid i flip the toggle switch and if I forget to turn it off afterwards it automatically shuts off with the car.
I justifying this potential purchase in my head right now.. and thank god my wife doesn’t see how much I spend on racing! At 1k however , that does buy allot of Swedish fish....

I ordered one before I knew anyone here would be a dealer for them - which I would have preferred.

I have an AIM dashboard and two smarycams in my car but still I thought this could be useful. When working with a coach, who is familiar with analyzing data, makes this a useful tool. However, for idiots like me who really just can't get data into their heads (and I have tried!) this tool may be useful.

Happy to let people know what I think and hoping to have it before the Summit Point race in a couple of weeks.

One of the options is track directions! That could get interesting on a new config or a place like Pocono that has 1,243,234,454 configurations.

I think it looks neat and will probably be a great device for some people. Hopefully it's not like the Virb, IQ3, etc.

Appreciate your nod to those RL supporters who are dealers for this type of technology.

I agree with your preliminary assessment of why it might be of benefit and can assure you that it will do what you are looking for in a way your existing technology will not and can not.

Reach out if you need help. I spent time with the Garmin Regional Sales Rep yesterday educating him on how it works and what it does, as well as how to set it up! Man, they are a BIG company!

It is not like the IQ3, done by RacePak and owned by a different group of companies (Holley Performance), and not like the first gen of “sports camera,” the VirB, which is no longer in production.

This has AI and is specifically designed for this purpose, driver optimization. Without a need for a laptop, without the need for a software learning curve, with video, with forces acting on the car, with auto sector analysis and most importantly with audio cues, given in advance.

Add learning capability and simple post session review with all the necessary parameters to improve and validate what you’re doing and what more you can do, and it is a potential game changer.

Think of it as “cutting to the chase.”
