Btw the MY2018 configurator now allows the optional OTTS on the optional black painted roof.... this is what I'd do on an R.

I'm generally not a lead foot gray fan but on an R with both the matte stripes and the red pinstripes it looks fantastic. Would look great on the painted black roof as well.

It’s a 5.2 Coyote. That’s clear. Fpc Voodoos are not reliable in race application and basically had to be replaced every race. If you want to buy Fords marketing BS as to why they say they dumped the Voodoo go right ahead. They went back to a 5.2 Boss Coyote for a reason and it sure as hell wasnt to keep the “special” Voodoo sound limited to its street cards. Lol.

Hey for stock track times I’m cool with that. It’s fact.

You guys also also need to let go of a lot of the make believe overstatements. Like you told me.. it’s ok, breathe deeply.

Waxer, a friend of mine wants to buy a V8 track/DE car preferably a Ford; are you recommending a low mileage cheap GT 5.0 and upgrade it with suspension, brakes, wheels or spend $20k-25k more and get a used GT350 which will also need some upgrades?
(I did own a ‘17GT350R for 200 miles)

I would go the GT350 route personally. Lots of things on car updated for track use. Seems to be pretty reliable on track. I tracked mine only lightly

I have had a GT350 and a Boss 302

If it were me...if it’s going to be primarily a track car I would go with the the cheap 5.0 GT (‘13 really cheap or ‘’15 up) Do upgraded coil-overs ($4k) with dialed in springs, upgrade brakes with better pads (you don’t need huge braking in rear) is all that’s really needed, 5 point belts, remove rear seat, Apex wheels 11”, 295 Hoosier A or R7s (put in car drive to track and put Hoosiers on at track.. reverse and drive home) and roll bar. A cage if purely a track car. You will need camber plates and spacers (20mm) with at least 2.5 degrees with ‘12 or ‘13 GT. Throw in headers and tune $3k.. Your around $25k with a Watson cage. Hans.

If a street, show & shine and track car ... GT350. 5 point belts & Hans.

Not a Coyote at all. It's built from a Voodoo with a swapped out CP crank and custom cams and dry sump. It does use a Coyote intake manifold, though.

I say get a used GT350.... the higher revving 8250rpm Voodoo (and its godly exhaust notes) is worth the price of admission. Plus in stock form it already has excellent brakes, suspension, aero, chassis/IRS, and MagneRide/drive modes, etc.... and Recaros. Perfect for street and occasional or even monthly amateur track use. A better transmisson too... the Tremec 3160 in the 350 is night & day compared to the crap MT82 in non-350s. Plus the fun to drive as hell factor in the GT350 is priceless... no way would I even consider the 5.0 or Boss 302 over the GT350 especially in pre-owned form considering the non-R prices are dipping nowadays.... just make sure you get at least a Track Pack version if a pre-2017 model.

For example... here's a few that are out there and there are many more:

You can thank me later.... 'nuff said.

disagree. 5.2 heads and block. Built from a Voodoo? Take out fpc no more Voodoo. Everything else Coyote.

Tell him to get a used 2017 Z06/7 with manual transmission. Change brake fluid and destroy >98% of everything else on track at your average DE event.

I recommend a 2015+ Performance Pack and add 18x11 Apex wheels with favorite tires. Add other items as he gets familiar with the car. The trans and clutch for the most part have been fixed compared to the S197. Because of the trans/clutch issues I would not recommend any S197 5.0 including the Boss 302.

If your friend is interested I have my GT350 for sale. Why did you only keep your GT350R for 200 miles?

Give it a rest, man. We get it, your opinion is that the Boss is better. Move on.
