Valve covers are not cam chain covers. Completely different. Very little common labor. Different beast. Different cost.

Interesting that you report using not-aluminum bolts.

It seems there is an oil leak as I’m seeing old oil residue and in certain areas it look excessive which I’m questioning the service tech how come they didn’t see it.

Took couple of pics and scheduled warranty appointment at the local Porsche centre.

Is these are the common area for the legendary oil leak?

I was told be a Porsche dealer in SoCal a few weeks ago, that if the leak is present where the gasket/bolts are, the "fix" is the bolt replacement/new seal with no engine drop.

If the leak is down below....then it's "more complicated". I'm pushing Porsche because we've had a CPO'ed 2016 Macan Turbo with leaks up "above" that the dealer in Cleveland was just brushing off and saying there was nothing they could do because it was just "seepage". We did not see any visible leaks outside of the car. I had a trusted indy shop look at it and take pictures as well and they were surprised at Porsche's stance. My argument is that NOBODY designs an engine where oil is expected to escape the engine block on a regular basis, through parts of the engine that are designed to keep the oil IN! They keep wiping it off and blowing us off over 3 service visits.

The car is no longer under CPO but I explained the history to the dealer here in SoCal. We have an appointment in a week or so for them to take a closer look at it (they noticed the leak during a routine check). I'll update the thread when that happens.

Are the 3.6 and 3.0 in the Panameras equally affected by this? I haven’t been seeing these issues discussed on that side of the house. This seems like a significant rampant issue brought on by cost cutting. I’m surprised there isn’t more literature about this on the internet.

I haven't heard any, but maybe post the question in the Panamera Forum to see if the issue turns up.

I did post in that forum and so far no response.

Camshaft leak confirmed. Let's see what happens now. I brought this to the dealer's attention in NE Ohio several times while the care was under CPO, and I have email correspondence with them telling me it's just "seepage" and it's "normal".

Default $415 fix ….

Had my 2016 Macan S in today for warranty (thank goodness) transfer case replaced. While on the phone telling me it was finished the service guy said Porsche has new fix for my oil leak and it’s $415!?!? I was quoted from same dealer (see page 25 in this thread) $15,000 to fix earlier this year.

At $415 I said DO IT. They are also gonna clean up the oil mess that running down to bottom of engine. I’ll risk $415 to see if it’s any sort of fix, it’s such a slow leak anyway.

BTW, loaner is a 2023 Macan (had 4 pipe exhaust like S) and tbh it’s a nice car. It’s definitely not quick like the S but it’s gotta get a lot better gas mileage. My S is a pig… 14-16 mpg. 🤦🏻‍♂️. I’m thinking about replacing my S with a new base Macan.

Fyi, heres a capture of the portion of my bill regarding the timing cover fix. 2 bolts, dealer said they are shorter and with a washer.

I think you will find that the new fix is replacing two bolts that are accessible without engine removal. I just had that done on my Macan S. According to my independant shop, it should relieve stress on the other bolts and should work unless your cover is already warped. Unfortunately, the Porsche dealer tech did not fully explain the new procedure and offered me the job for $998. At that time, he said the full job cost was $2,500. I thought they were replacing all the bolts so I moved forward, even though my independent shop quoted $550 for the same. Live and learn.

Not sure about your mileage on the S. You must drive in traffic a lot as I get 21-22mpg but most of my driving is highway. I also got a regular Macan as a loaner and was surprised to see about the same MPG. Maybe it is better in the city, though. The 4 banger sounds industrial to me. Not like that 6 on the Macan S!

I’ve got 53k on my Macan. I dunno, my driving is a combo of local and highway. Terrible mileage. ?? I get 14-16 mpg.

yes, it was the top two bolts.

Good info in this thread here.

Can someone clear up a few questions for me? I'm considering a macan but will get the carmax warranty reading about the transfer case issues and oil leaks. Has anyone used the carmax warranty for this repair yet?

Does the leak only happen on the 3.6? Is the 2.9 affected by this issue too?
