So no questions asked or comments regarding warranty being affected by tune?

Fair enough, are you enjoying the extra performance?

Just the tune done, anything else?

Does anyone have the manual for what’s required for the transmission replacement - step by step process, what is and isn’t removed.. . I have some odd damage to my stainless steel cover within the trunk and a bit of damage on my rear bumper.

Also the “engine control fault, consult a dealer” warning light came on after about 3 hours on the road and the car began to shake pretty badly. I pulled over, shut the car off and started it back up after 30 seconds and drove the last 15 minutes home with no issues. Not very confidence inspiring as the car worked PERFECT before this transmission recall...

Yes, I experienced this "grind" as well and it would happen 2 - 3x every time I took my car out. It has now disappeared. I really do believe that there is a "break-in" period on the transmission. The shift from 1st into 2nd is not as notchy/tight and much smoother now.

Second time this has happened to me since my having my transmission replaced. Today I hit the rev limiter at the tach showing 7200 RPM. Any one know how or why my tach could be reading wrong? Dealer checked my car out and said there was no issues after the first time.

I had my transmission replaced a few weeks back @ Porsche Silver Spring (in Maryland), per @Shandingo 's recommendation. I was impressed by their service (specifically Linda, for any one in the area looking for a Porsche SA who takes enthusiasts seriously). I did have the same experience as one other poster on here where the clutch pedal felt a little funky at first, but that went away after a bit. I'll be flushing the brake and clutch fluid at the start of the warm season.

While they had the tranny out, I had them install @BBiAutosport 's lightweight flywheel and sport clutch kit as well, which comes with the bolts needed to do the install. The dealership charged me 2 hours of labor to put those parts in; no hiccups. It's been a lot of fun, despite the cold weather. Idle is mildly more noisy, and there's an enjoyable little "whirl" sound when accelerating in lower RPMs, but no one (including my fiancee) notices either except for me. It's still easy to drive...was actually expecting it to be a little more difficult. Between gears, blipping, and heel toe are all glorious; revs jump fast. I recommend the mod for any one who has yet to do the tranny recall, and who plans on tracking the car.

Lost 3rd gear about 2 weeks before the car was going in for the recall. Dealer was able to replace and have the car back to me in 3 days.
One thing to note, I was changing the oil the next day and noticed the sway bar was not reconnected. One nut was missing the other was threaded onto the stud. I found a nut that fit and used it for now but the dealer is going to hear about this one.

There are currently 96 pages on this thread.
Is there a "synopsis" someone can point me to?

My understanding is;
  1. Some / many early build GT4 have a 3rd gear synchro issue.
  2. Porsche was initially reluctant to address the situation
  3. Now they will replace ANY GT4's transmission exhibiting this issue
  4. Replacement is performed @ PCar dealers as required
  5. Replacement is no cost to current owner even if NOT ORIGINAL Owner?

Please fill in my ignorance blanks, particularly items 3 and 5.

Thank you.

Craig, on the hunt for the right GT4.
