Best Track Times in a GT4
#1366
Thanks Bill
I hear you on the courage. I am pretty sure you could stay flat foot up the esses, but I could not bring myself to do it. On top of that T10 is deceivingly fast and does not require much brake, I should be able to track out of 10 at 120-125, the best I could do was 115.
Car is basically stock except for bbi wing risers which slow it down in the straights, but the wing angle has been backed off to the lowest setting. Harnesses, Forglines.
Alignment - Camber: -3.5F, -2.8R, Caster: 10.5, Toe: +1.5mm front, -2mm rear. The biggest mod was the weather. These cars hate the heat.
Good heavens that's fast! On the RE71 lap, one thing I noticed was your Vmin around oak tree. It looks like the video speed indicator might be lagging in time just a bit, but it says your Vmin was less than 30 mph. I don't believe it, given the speed you achieved on the back straight and the lap time! On the HOHOs Vmin was nearly 50 which is good and what I would expect on a fast lap.
VIR is my home track and I don't think I can ever get that fast around it! When you say "courage" what I think of is the uphill esses. When I was there last time for some reason I could not get beyond entering them at 110-115 max. The car just didn't feel right - hard to describe but it felt like a tight string, almost twitchy. On my fastest lap there, 2:10, I entered at ~125 mph which is close to where you were. The other places I lose time are on the straights - I do not push it 100% to the speeds you are seeing. I love the "g-out" at the bottom of the hill after T10!
I have a friend here in Raleigh with a guards red GT4 - I think he was there with Chin.
BTW: any engine/tune mods on your car? Do you know your suspension/camber settings?

Pretty sure we talked a bit on Sunday. I am the guy with the white Cayman R that was parked 2 spaces down from you. I know what you mean about having the nerve to go up the S's without braking. I did my check off to red group on Monday and my instructor had me pull the car a little more left on the entrance and I was able to go up without braking, but still a lift. Seriously helped me.
Everything about that track is amazing in my opinion. This is my third time, and I plan on going more than once next year. Chin runs such a first-rate organization, I love their events.

I once tried entering the climbing esses without braking (in the GT3), didn't have a good feeling when I started to turn in, so I straightened my line and put two off. That enabled me to maintain control of the car, which I figured was better than chancing it with the normal line. One of my scariest moments on track, and one of the few times I've put a tire off track, but a good learning experience, with fortunately no harm done.

^^ Manifold, I left a splitter there once, just that way in a 2010RS. Have the video somewhere, I had a passenger and the comments made me tear up from laughing so much, I almost couldn’t keep it on the track

^ I had a passenger too, someone I did a checkout for the next day. The moment he saw we were deviating from the beaten path, he said "OH ****!" blaring into my communicator. I told him afterwards that his statement didn't exactly help my focus in the heat of the moment.

Seriously impressive! Both times with the street tires and the hoosiers are something to be proud of.

It was quite cold this weekend, and it rained pretty heavily, starting Friday after lunch and going until about 1:30pm on Saturday. The cold temps helped make power, but the track never warmed up so traction was limited. If the sun had come out and warmed up the track, I probably could have gotten a better time. Well, the sun finally came out Sunday afternoon, but I had already packed up by then.
