There was zero warning and a subsequent review of the MoTeC and PIWIS data showed no over-revs nor any areas of concern.
Oh, that's not good, couldn't you put the stock headers back in and flash tune back ?

24Chrom: Yikes, sounds bad. Can you post photos of the housing?

Once the engine covers overs were removed, we found a small crack in the cast housing cover for the timing chain. We suspect either something broke in the timing chain assembly, or perhaps the cam bolts came loose. Either way, the chain became loose enough to whack its cover and break it.

I’m still mulling over how best to proceed. Tear it down and fix it, or simply replace the engine.
There was a similar failure reported here in the GT4 forum about 2 years ago, and it has happened on some 911 cars IIRC. The failure mode I'm referring to is where the bolts that hold the cam sprocket to the camshaft back out and/or shear off. That sounds like what you experienced.

If that's the case, seems like they would/should replace the entire engine. Certainly the top end and probably some or all of the pistons are trashed along with cylinder walls (assuming it had piston-valve impact). If pistons were damaged then you have parts floating around the bottom end as well. All this crap happens so fast there's no chance to kill the motor until the damage is done. I'd love to know how they diagnose the severity of it...or maybe once they see the bolts off the gear, they know it all has to come out.

Oh, forgot you are not under warranty...forget all the "they" stuff - I guess they is "you."

Oregon Raceway Park (ORP) is run both clockwise and counter-clockwise. This is a lap running clockwise, not really comparable to the other posted times for ORP. 1:53.56. Forgelines, suspension bits for camber, R7s, Cargraphic headers. pkh is faster still, I'm sure.

It was nice meeting you Sean! You drive well, I wonder if you would feel benefit from getting the upgraded springs.

This is my fastest ORP lap so far CCW which is pretty hilarious because it seemed like disaster through 3-4... I had to make a pass and I think I lost at least a half second when I dropped a wheel before the curbing at 3. Also my fuel warning light flashed right as I was heading down valkyrie hill which scared the crap out of me. I ended the video with some chase action with sk35off. We were pretty running the same pace going flat out which made for an exciting chase.

That's one hell of a lap around RA. Sorry to hear about your engine.

Here's my side of pkh's GT4 chase video. I only managed a 1:52.81, but at least I have the excuse that this is the first time I've driven the GT4 at ORP in over a year. That, and the fact that pkh is just plain faster than me. :-) Sdillon made a cameo appearance as well (red GT4), but he had switched to less-sticky street tires.

OP: we really should separate the ORP times into clockwise and counterclockwise.

Default New Summit Point PB

Improved to 1:21.13. If Mylesd55 reports, there will be a new record.

^ At SP, Hoosiers might be worth ~2 secs as compared to RE-71R. Need to compare apples to apples.

Just saying a "new record" is essentially for a different class if using a significantly faster tire. The various records should be probably categorized based on tire classes. If I put slicks on the GT4, I suspect that I could set a fastest time at my home track, but I wouldn't really count it as a new record.
