Correct, and a very specific one at that.

I don't want to derail this thread and it into a discussion about TBs BUT given that they're a rather popular mod and given that we sell a TB upgrade, it's somewhat pertinent. If we get too far off track, I will try and keep us in line.

What do we know so far? ShakeNBake has the problem and has said that others have as well. We have gone back and forth a few times but I think he's waiting on Cobb to find a solution. To be absolutely clear, this is NOT a Cobb issue but something that apparently comes from mating the 82mm throttle body to the GT4 with the latest and greatest OE ROM software.

Can anyone who has experienced this confirm that it happened with the auto blipper on? I'm scratching my head because there are so many 981s out there with 82mm throttle bodies running with auto blip that have no had an issue. It's something specific to the GT4 and supposedly something that happens ONLY during consecutive downshifts with the auto blipper on. I have no issues with my car but i'm also running 991 Power Kit software in the ECU so it's expecting the larger air volume.

Can anyone who has experienced this provide any more detailed information?

John,

I have only found one other GT4 owner experiencing an issue similar to this (slight throttle hang), and all in house installations with the Piwiz recalibration have gone off without a hitch. We spoke with Gavin over at Autoquest and he has had no issues with any of his installations as well. We are waiting on word from our tuner and Cobb on getting into the throttle body mapping to help resolve Jacy's issue. Feel free to give me a ring any time and I would be happy to share any relevant details with you.

Is the TB recalibration with PIWIS absolutely necessary?

^ Good question because I was thinking the same if you are implementing a tune. Would not the tune do this?

if not - do you have to wait for them to do this than implement the tune??

I have the TB and plenum on my car and here are my 2 cents. I have no tune yet and didn't have a CEL come on until this weekend after about 200 miles or more of driving the car hard...not track hard, but when I drive it...I DRIVE it. High RPM shifts and downshifts NEVER with auto blip on. I have never had any throttle hang in the slightest. I did have Porsche recalibrate right after I did the install and that made a slight difference in response, sound and power. I am getting a very loud induction whistling sound since day one. I'm guessing this is normal?? I have called IPD countless times and left messages and emails with no response. I have had my COBB since even before the plenum/TB...so I need to get on the tune already to get the most out of this combo and the manifolds.

I was all set to get the 450 kit on mine once run in but all this has made me think more about it, as I don't want to be spending quite a bit of money and then run into problems plus being in the UK any problems I might get will be even harder to get sorted

Do you have new headers /exhaust, as well, or still using OEM?? Would you say adding the throttle body and plenum was worth it?? Are you feeling more hp/torque?

Can not blame you . Take it slow. I am starting with new Sport headers and Cats and then will decide what/if to add on from there as new info and reviews are shared/introduced. But headers and Cats so far seems like the safe and least expensive was to exploit more out or the 3.8 liter.

Hi guys,

I bought the IPD plenum and 82mm throttle body, along with an Accessport for my Spyder. I have not gotten a PIWIS throttle body adaptation done, the dealers around me don't want to do it. I was reading some of BGB motorsports's old posts on the 981 Cayman boards and I saw that a few others have struggled with P1074 and P0068 codes, (http://www.planet-9.com/981-cayman-a...tml#post884626) After about 50 miles, I'm now getting those CELs.

BGB - in your experience, is this still true with the 3.8l motor in the 981? Should I just drive the car and hope the DME figures it out? Or should I go ahead and try to pay someone to do the PIWIS throttle body adaptation?

Kit, I had talked to Fremont and was told the piwis was no problem... Have you now heard otherwise?

Yup, I might just got for the catless cargraphic headers after I get mine smogged this year.

That sound isn't normal, check that the Y intake and manifold rubber boots are fitted correctly.
You can do the recalibration without having Porsche use the PIWIS II.
Turn the key to the first position, which is the one before the engine turns over, wait at least 60 seconds.
Press accelerator pedal to the floor and release, remove key.
It will go through the adaptation process after that, may take 50 miles if you take it easy.

Nobody had mentioned this adaptation process before, where did you find this info?

Good info for those that have problems in taking the car to the dealer for the calibration....now, who is getting CELs after the calibration and a ECU Tune or COBB? Any reasons for this? Solution?
