I just don't see a GT4 RS in the cards with this generation. There's far too little time left. Next generation the 987.2 will all be turbo 4s. I don't see Porsche bringing back an NA 6 cyl engine for it, it would be too costly to start up production again when only turbos are being produced. We don't even know if the 992 GT3 RS is going to stay naturally aspirated or not.

I would like to preorder a GT4 but you're tripping me up. I would be bummed if the RS version was introduced afterwards. lol

I don't mean to trip you up. Order a GT4, enjoy and love it, and if a GT4 RS comes out, trade up. If it doesn't, at least you enjoyed the GT4 immensely.

I see the GT4 RS in the cards as a last hurrah before they end the 981 run. No one saw the 997.2 GT3 RS 4.0 coming... And then it came. Same for the GT2 RS, to be honest (and it's why some on here called it a parts bin exercise.. until they actually drove it).

You could be right. Either way, the GT4 is not being announced until May, so hopefully by that time we begin to see a mule with an even bigger wing on the Autobahn.

I have a 997.2 GT3 RS, it would be amazing to have the last naturally aspirated top Boxster Spyder or Cayman GT4 to go along with it as well. I could see a GT4 RS in 2018 at the end of production, but not midlife cycle. Big surprise. And it would definitely be turbo by 2019 as well. I sure hope you're wrong. lol

It might not be order-able until May, but it should be announced at Geneva in early March... At least it better be. I'm not sure I can handle waiting much past then!

I am assuming the confusion on GT4 vs GT4RS is based on the Boxster version of the Cayman GT4 being called an RS.

No, the Boxster version appears to be an error. The GT4 RS is a hope. At least my dealer has heard from a "knowledgeable" customer (not me) that it is a possibility.

Not sure how accurate this info is.
Sounds like a dealer who has too many GTS Caymans on the way lol...

I heard 600 total just this weekend from a rep. So maybe 200 for the US?

What is it with those numbers? Are dealers trying to justify above market rate additions once the car hits?

To be clear I really thought this number was absolutely nuts and dismissed it. Now we hear 200 from another dealer and I put two and two together. US allotment? Just speculating.

When there is a limit on GT4 cars, then is 981 cars worldwide.
Maybe 200 for the US.

Just to clear this all up --the Cayman is the GT4, the Boxster will be a Spyder. There is no Boxster GT4 just a Boxster Spyder once again.

Assuming 981 are built in total, then it's safe to say it will be the last and top naturally aspirated Cayman/Boxster. I would be frustrated if I purchased one and an even more limited addition GT4 RS and Spyder RS were released at a later date at the very end before switching to turbocharging.

If it really is 200 981 GT4's to the US, then that's absolutely idiotic on PAG/PCNA's part. And they're going to be alienating some of their most loyal and best customers.

I know a few 918 Spyder owners that have never owned another Porsche before (they just have the 918's hypercar competitors, and some Ferrari's, etc), and some non-918 Spyder owners that have owned 20+ and/or currently own more than a handful actively. Which one's the better customer?

With 297 918 Spyder owners in the US, if all 200 981 GT4 allocs get snapped up by them, it would be a disaster in my opinion.
