Any article that opens with "A leak on social media from an enthusiastic potential owner suggests a track-spec version of the sublime mid-engined coupe could land early next year." and follows with, "details of a claimed phone call from his trusted dealer" should be taken with a grain, or maybe an entire mine, of salt!

I guess now that the mid-term elections are done here in the US the fine folks writing for both sides are taking their high standards for source verification and heading to Top Gear to write about cars.*

Yes...you missed reading the article before posting!

"A potential engine hasn’t been confirmed, but with ‘380-400bhp’ mentioned, a flat-six of either 3.4 or 3.8 litres in size would seem all but certain. Given how capably the Cayman GTS (pictured) handles its 335bhp, that would mean even the GT4 was being kept on its leash a little."

I hope that they confirm things soon. After 6 straight P cars, I made the decision to go with the new Z06 if the GT4 is not a killer track car. I have never owned an American car in my life…but the Z06 looks too damn tempting!

Porsche has no cajones if they don't let the Cayman off its leash. They need to learn how to differentiate their offerings and market them to different buyers right out of the gate.

Grow a pair Porsche and give the GT4 the engine it deserves.

Would be interesting to see if they offer a GT4 street car and a GT4 Cup car.

Can't agree more. Would be a very pleasant surprise to see PAG do it.

Any idea on what motor they will work off of? That puts the displacement between the standard 911 and S. That makes sense I guess.

Really? Where would they get that motor? No 3.6 currently in production. More likely a highly tuned 3.4 or a de tuned 3.8, which would leave "head room" for future models.

Ok, what is it? If you just heard it, how can it be a year old - different time down under?

AFAIK the 3.6 wasn't DFI and this GT4 is going to be DFI. Porsche is also known for reusing parts and is not in the habit of re-certifying unless absolutely profitable.
