Answered my own question. "No one will confirm it on the record, but it's whispered a PDK-equipped 718 Cayman GT4 has already lapped the Nordschleife seven to eight seconds quicker than the manual car."

Thats going to be the non-existing RS with more hp and torque.

Should we disect the reviews

How about the piece around times and what contributed the most. Lol

or how about the tires, what were they again lol bog standard Cup 2 N1 - the ones that have been available for years

You know the ones that are a big improvement in the wet but show barely any difference in the dry 😀

What about the PDK version "rumoured" time, a time "rumoured" at a tightly controlled launch event. It just gets better.

No surprise really the changes are much greater than the sum of the parts. This is very obvious to those that know what to look for.

Well done Porsche I'm sure new owners will have a blast. I certainly hope they do.

Quote from Motortrend

"This is it: the Cayman we've all been waiting for. The 2020 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4emphatically delivers the dazzling performance, precision, and poise we've always believed possible of the company's mid-engine sports car."

Quote from Cnet

"2020 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 first drive review: A standout track star"

Car Advice. "Doesn’t sound as good as the old one? Wrong. With the exhaust open, at full wail, it makes all the right noises for mine."

Top Gear Review... Seems the most honest of the bunch I have seen so far.

Bottom Line: better, more refined then the previous but lacking some of the quirks and charisma that made the 981 so special.

I'm really laughing into my coffee . I'm at a loss for words - all of this is so obvious in terms of what the changes would deliver and surprise surprise they have.

Significantly more downforce without additional drag - faster through corners and high speed compound corners

Significantly more HP and top end torque - faster on straights.

Improved suspension - better under brakes and faster through corners

Surprise surprise an improved faster car with improved overall feel.

The reviewers must have been writing from the grassy knoll.

😀

Perhaps some should go and start a new thread... Why the 718 GT4 is not as good as the 981 GT4. Absolutely hilarious!

Its always the same when a new model comes out - you get used to it.

Looks like a really good entry level GT car and they have improved pretty much everything across the board - clearly a lot of work has been done on the backend packaging and suspension lots of bits and pieces in there from the GT3.

👍

Top Gear article seemed to prefer the original, but they didn’t even know it has a 4.0 now...

I think that was a bit of a "typo" because they said in the same sentence, that it was bored out. The following stood out to me:

"But it’s changed. No longer as guttural and warbly as before, and although it pulls more healthily across the rev range, with fewer peaks and troughs, it’s slightly less charismatic. And the noise has a synthetic edge. The switchable sports exhaust does make a big difference, pumping up the bass. Can’t decide whether it’s a good thing or exacerbates the sense of falseness."

I think that's a typo,.they got the rest of the specs right. But yeah, they acknowledge improvement but aren't quite as in the tank as some other reviewers. They seem to miss some of the personality of the 981.

Yes that was an off beat review but on the whole most of the reviews were pretty good. If you're going to review GT cars I think you have to approach them as GT cars. The Brit reviewers always seem a bit stuck in the past in a mythical sports car era and their reviews often reflect this.

Lots of Weissach magic sprinkled throughout the GT4 it will be fun to see it revealed.
