No idea whether this is the case or not, but it certainly makes the most sense to me. It seems there will either be a Turbo 6 in it OR it will cost a lot more than it did, like $115-120k or so. Which would sell out in about 20 minutes anyway so why not?

As to the claim by Porsche that the Turbo flat-six won't fit in the 982 platform... yeah, right. Maybe that's true. But maybe, just maybe, it is a case of Porsche wanting a "hey, you can't blame us, it's Physics!" excuse for sticking a cheaper 4 in their cheaper sportscar. It is totally believable that they would say that for that reason. I have to believe that if it fits in a 911 it could be made to fit in the 982. But maybe not...

Remember the Cayman R? The same argument was brought forth at that time. The "R" was reserved for the 911 etc, etc, etc.

The same as the relationship between the GT3 and the GT3RS; manual = GT4 and then PDK for GT4RS. Porsche is very good at variants and emptying wallets.

That is turbo 1000%!!!! Wow!

Now the question is: Would they stick a non turbo in the GT4 if the Spyder has a turbo?

I bet that is in the realm of possible. ~400hp was probably the target number from Porsche, since the GTS is 365hp.

So there's a certain irony to this if the GT4 finally gets a bona fide GT Department drivetrain but it's not the one that everyone was hoping for... at least the marketing department will be able to spin it accordingly

possible... but I think that would be unlikely. I can’t think that would make sense financially for Porsche.

Actually- makes sense. The baby GT gets its own engine (2.7L) with a bit more power and torque.

Combined with more aero, it will perform well, meet emissions and still be an introductory GT car and Porsche protects its 911 GT3 (RS) owners from having a cayman owner suggest they have the same engine, but detuned.
