I think if a PDK is coming down the road and gonna be in both the Spyder and the GT4 I think I am gonna have to then get it and do a Euro delivery.

We'll, it is based on the t6 so I could see arguing a technicality.... Plus I miss the outrage.

Getting this discussion back on track....

I'm a Cayman guy, but I also need to make a rational decision to buy this next GT4. So, for about the same price as the GT4, one can get a 911 Carrera T (maybe less with a discount).

With the Carrera T, you get;
- a 911 with a back seat
- special light weight features
- 305 tires on 11.5" rims
- faster 0-60 times, 4.0 seconds w pdk
- the same block, plus 2 expensive turbos.

No wing, and not a track focused car - i get it. But, is the Carrera T a better value proposition?

+1
gave the dealer my Porsche code for a GT silver, bordeaux leather/top, steel braked, hairdressers car yesterday
it will sit next to the poor mans GT2RS (GT3RS) and the poor man's F8 (458).

Maybe it is a better value proposition, but it’s turbocharged which isn’t a positive for me.

I considered the T as I was deciding what would come after my 981 CGTS. With LWBs and no back seat, I'm sure I would I have been sold, except it wasn't NA. And that was my deciding factor. I just didn't want it with a turbo.

So much heritage and history in the 911 that it almost had me convinced. Then I found my GT4, took one look, and have never looked back.

Given the specs and $, absolutely no reason to consider a new one (unless it's the color!).

Sure! The T was not the success in the US Porsche hoped for (thats why a 718 T was never offered in the US). Good luck trying to get one the way you want it (not a bloated dealer spec). There are a lot more deficiencies for a track focused car with it than you know or would admit. Boat sales and car sales are worlds apart.

I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but I have to say...initial impressions and after a couple days of digesting the new 718 GT4..I'm really glad I have my 981 GT4. Aesthetics, are way better on the 981 (wing, front and rear end, interior, splitter, color options, etc. ). Power and torque specs are marginally better and I don't think the new 4.0 left much on the table (was probably more of an emissions/GPF/marketing move).

I will say, I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw that it's not getting the detuned GT3 motor. All in all, I think the 981 value is safe!

The 718 GT4, while not perfect by any means, is a superb car, price not withstanding. It could have been more, it could have been a turbo, it might not have been offered at all, but it is what probably should have been expected...on many levels. I predict it will sell very well, if not to many current 981 GT4 owners, who seem to be delighted not to be blown away with the new GT4.

Not surprising....it's called belief bias or belief perseverance. Be happy with what you have!

I want to preface this with the fact I really appreciate how Porsche does try to improve the car with function over form; which is something I 100% agree with...

That being said, once I saw it, I could not unsee it....

Also we have lots of good cleaning lady's, but once again, whoopsy was dead on with the engine from may 2018.

Perhaps in your eyes, Stanford. From my perspective, the 981 GT4 is definitely safer than it could have been given a lot of the realistic potential outcomes that were speculated. I have no doubt that it will be a phenomenal car, but only marginally better in some aspects, and two steps back in other areas. Obviously a lot of those "steps back" are subjective (ie aesthetics), and maybe that's where I surmise fantom's belief bias statement is aimed at, but I don't think the current GT4 owner community at a hole is that unable to pull the blinders off. Unless the the rather underwhelming stats are a gross misrepresentation of the car, I don't see anything significantly attractive over the 981. From what I can tell, the majority of people in our community would agree with that sentiment (including those that were considering one over a 981). I know one thing, I'm happy I with the one I have, and I was one of those guys that was considering holding out for the 718.

No regrets
