Yep, turbo. I was trying to listen to it using my headphones and I can definitely here the turbo whistle. It actually reminded me of my 991.2 3.0L but if people say it won't fit, then it must be the 4 pot turbo.

Wow interesting video. Definitely looks and sounds like a Turbo 4 to my ears. The thing is the exhaust/diffuser on the spy shots of the Cayman GT4 look identical to this which makes me think both will be the same.

I’ll go against the grain and guess the new car will have a Carrera S engine, as ours did two years ago. It’ll have a nice jump in power, and won’t be nearly as costly as using a GT3 engine. The exhaust pipes on these mules look the same as a present-day 911, so I’ll guess it’ll have about 420HP or a bit less from it’s turbo motor.
Looked into this last year with the 981 which is the same underside as the 718.

Remember the Cayman R? The same argument was brought forth at that time. The "R" was reserved for the 911 etc, etc, etc.
The same as the relationship between the GT3 and the GT3RS; manual = GT4 and then PDK for GT4RS. Porsche is very good at variants and emptying wallets.

That would be an interesting way to offer the option of PDK.

I love the Spyders. I really want to have one at some point. Just seeing the video reminds me to put one on my wish list.

Like i have said before, i wouldnt be surprised if they made the Spyder a GTS with a fancy convertible top. I would be disappointed however.
The 981 Spyder never recieved the GT3 front suspension like the GT4. Perhaps Porsche would also take away the GT4 motor this time around?

i’m not a racer, but aren’t the HP limits capped in IMSA GT4 or weight penalties given? What does it matter if it’s turbo or not? Can you expand on your comments?

For the race car, Porsche has been avoiding turbos in the CUP, R and RSR. For some good reason im sure.
The GT4 creates so much heat with the 3.8L, that a turbo 4cly would be even worse IMO. It is hard enough to keep catalytic converters on them as it is.
The Mclarens had their issues in GT4 in regards to heat of turbos...
The GT4MR only needs a little bump in hp and torque to run with the current Mustangs, Audis and Camaros.
It takes a true pro to run a GT4MR against these cars this season in IMSA/PWC.
IMSA GT4 has indeed restricted the mclarens, audis, mustangs etc.. And they have allowed the GT4MR to drop a little weight. Just to stay "competitive".
But it is just enough to get through this season.
Porsche know they need to step up the game of the GT4 race car to run with the competition but they also know they cannot surpass their 911 either... They should find the balance somewhere in the middle.
Realistically, they should just X51 the current 3.8L and call it a day. That would work for IMSA GT4 imo.
