It's either Porsh or Porsha(uh) with the short uh, as you stated.

I'm simply trying to see what percentage of P-owners pronounce it one way v. the other, as stated before.

My kids always call our cars Porsche's...
On their first trip to the states they asked Grandma how she liked her Ply - mouth

This inspires to pipe in about Brett Favre. For some reason a major pet peeve for me. Clearly this guy's name is not supposed to be pronounced Farv, but it is. Apparently butchered long ago by his own family in Missippi.

On a slightly different topic. (Since it is not a surname) Did you ever hear George W Busch pronounce the word nuclear? The President of the United States says nuk-you-ler. Jimmy Carter pronounced it the same way. I can't fathom how their advisors and speech coaches don't correct them.

Would you have believed that this topic has evoked more discussion than Roe v Wade?

......Then there's Shakespeare...."What's in a name"?

Down here Hyundai is marketed by the factory as Hi - oon - day. The "oon" as in 'look' NOT as in 'moon'.

It all depends on who the factoy is marketing to.

If I pronounce the word Porsch-a (or -uh) I sound like a jackass. So I call it my Porshe. Interestingly, many of my fellow countrymen (UK) do the same.

An easier option used to be 'nine-eleven' but that got all messed up on 9/11.

So, ultimately, it's Al-Quaeda's fault!

Cheers,

Paul.

If I put my family name to a product which sold thousands all round the world for over 40 years I would expect different ways of pronouncing it to appear, after all that is one of the ways language evolves..its human nature to try to make the word seem more familiar.
