Rennlist iRacing thread
My neighbor, a few doors down from me, just signed up to iRacing after trying out my rig a few weeks ago (and his Rift is supposedly being delivered today). He's an autocrosser who just started doing DE's.
I can see if he's interested in joining up with us. I chased him around in the Miata last night @ Summit Jefferson and he keeps the car on the pavement pretty well.

We had a reasonable turnout yesterday at, I think, 10 registered. Why don't we do a season just so people have an idea of the schedule and those who want to look at the points can.
Oct 21: COTA
Oct 28: Watkins Glen Boot
Nov 4: Lime Rock Park
Nov 11: Mosport
Nov 18: Mid-Ohio
Nov 25: Road Atlanta

Good race with only one spin in T1, but we're still missing Phil, Burkey, etc.
I totally lit up the rears at the start and Jim got by, but on Lap 2 or so he got a little bobble coming on to Big Bend and I was able to get a run up the inside of the hairpin.
I find my focus is not as sharp as last season. Going to have to work on longer runs maintaining a high pace.

Greetings All,
What kinds of times are we looking at ? I can't seem to get ANY grip at all with the default setup. If anyone here remembers me from last year, i'm pretty slow (and things don't look much better this year). Also are we planning any practice sessions for today ?
Thanks
George

Good race last night.
I don't know if the weather changed suddenly, or if it really was the tire pressure change I made - but I suddenly went a second faster once the race started, and the car felt *really* good throughout the whole thing.
For the last several seasons I've aimed to have 29 psi, hot, in the RUF Track. I try to keep them even/square front to back, so all 4 when hot are at 29.
I noticed, in the off-season, I did a fixed series race with the RUF C-Spec (so you can't make setup changes), and when fully warmed up, that car settled in around 24.5psi. I took that as a hint, and have been doing some of the IMSA series races (which uses the C-Spec) and sure enough, that car feels much better in the 24.5-25.0 range.
Now the C-Spec and Track are VERY different but I've been messing around and was keeping the Track in the 25 range, it didn't feel right. I went up to the usual 29, and the car stabilized, but it went slower. The last 2-3 minutes of qualifying I decided to drop the pressure WAY down, just to see... and for 2 laps the car felt ok. Didn't go any faster, but it felt good - so I took a chance. And sure enough... the more I pushed the car, the better it felt.
So I'll leave that as a tip here - aim for ~23.5 hot at all 4 corners. For me that means, at least at COTA, starting around 17.0.
I still don't like COTA all that much. Unless the car really sticks well in the front, it's an exercise in frustration as you have to hesitate and hold back so much waiting for the front to come in.

I try to love COTA, but I just don't like any of the corners. Jim's description is the best: it's like a badly designed autocross course. Incredibly wide on entry with corners that almost all tighten further on exit. The apexes all seem to be pointy, the slalom tightens, and I'm guessing my way through that multi-apex corner in the last sector.
For tire pressures, I loaded a test session with the same weather and dropped my tire pressures. I did run a bunch of 208s pretty easily, so I think there is something to Jim's tire pressure hypothesis. I posted a question in the iracing forum about the tire warmers because I was having falling tire pressures with increasing carcass temperature.

Yeah, the track is deceptively technical. I drove it last may with the AMG Academy, and was mostly overdriving it. I couldn't really open up the car until I got to the back straight. Plus had to wait a while before the passing zones. It's not a bad track, but frustrating more than exciting. ...vs something like Road Atlanta, where at every turn you feel like you cheat death.
Did you guys start iRacing again?
