This car is so-so at Road Atlanta, but I am looking forward to it. A good set would help. This car is particularly difficult in the uphill section after T1 compared to other cars....I think.,

I want to get better at the setup part, for you guys that have been creating the different setups can you share your approach. I've read the setup guides, etc, and know there is any number of things that can change the understeer/oversteer but I have never seen what I might call a decision tree or thought process, which do you try first, second, third, etc. Assume the first goal is to get the car as low as possible to get a low CoG, you want to get a good corner balance which I'm not sure would be for this car 45/55?, but then when do you do next?

Getting a good baseline is the hardest part IMO. I always just use someone elses and then modify it based on what I do with real cars. Try to determine what the car needs on what part of the corner. (entry, steady state, exit) and if its low or high speed corners (possible aero changes). Springs and bars for steady state, shocks for entry/exit with a bit of a bar change if putting down power on exit is a problem. Not sure its the best though, I think Justin, Julian, and Ted seem to do a better job of setup than I do.

Right now I'm using Edmund's setup for Road Atlanta and it was better (for me) then the one I pulled from the forums. With Edmund's blessing I'll post it up through dropbox for those who didn't make the practice session.

I do the same thing Tom. Grab a baseline and then tweak it. The biggest things I've learned are:

1. Strive for comfort and consistency and not speed. If I can make the car do what I want, then the speed will come. I always lose time trying to trim wing out of an already loose car etc.

2. Make one change at a time and give the setup a fair shot.

3. Don't judge it on the first couple corners, but do a few laps before assessing it.

4. I don't understand the tire temperatures in the sim and thus almost never touch pressures or camber.

Agreed. No matter what time someone else can do in a setup. I give it 1 warm up lap and then lean on it for 5 laps solid. If I can't control it, I change it or move on. I've tried taking wing out of the RUF and it just makes it too lose in the high speed corners so I find I'm always at 8 or more, usually around 10 and the gurney.

I don't touch camber much but I do touch rear toe quite a bit along with the shocks. Stupid autocrosser stock class habits.

I had a pretty good race too last night. Some stuff started making sense in my head and I picked up the pace a lot. Watching the replay I realized I punted Bobby I believe, going into Gurney Bend. Sorry about that.
Yep that was me. No worries, certainly knew it wasn't intentional. Car didn't have any real damage and I really didn't even loose that much time if I remember correctly.

Enjoyed the practice last night. Lots of good driving and situational awareness. A far cry from rookie street stock racing!

Here is the beginning of the schedule for next season. It will be starting with a Tech track, so make sure you download it from the Tech track section. I've only driven it in testing a couple of times and that race is going to be a mess. COTA should be out in time, but if not I'll flip it a week later. The question is what should we fill the blanks in with. Should I reuse tracks from last season or press on with new tracks? Are we staying in North America or should we take a trip abroad? Should I double up on COTA? Do we even want to try LRP again?

1 9-Apr-14 Long Beach
2 16-Apr-14
3 23-Apr-14 LRP (Do we really want to try this again?)
4 30-Apr-14 COTA (if available)
5 7-May-14
6 14-May-14
7 21-May-14
8 28-May-14 Watkins Glen Boot
9 4-Jun-14 Kansas Speedway (road course)
10 11-Jun-14
11 18-Jun-14 VIR
12 25-Jun-14 Watkins Glen (Classic Boot maybe?)
13 2-Jul-14

I'd run a practice around 9pm EST.

Daytona is always good.

Indy

Okayama Long

I feel bad asking people to buy too many new tracks. I'm all for recycling those that worked well.

I would like to do Lime Rock again, it would be nice to see how far we have come as a group. Also, I just really like that track...

Also I think doing some of the free tracks would be a good idea. I don't believe we ran Summit or Okayama, I know summit is small but it just makes it more interesting.
