Diesel Cayenne and VW emission issue

So my ideal car is now a dead end. In August 2015 I ordered a nicely optioned 2016 CD, Carmine Red. It arrived in November 2015, after the TDI issue arose. Since that time, since I couldn't take possession of my Cayenne, I have been driving loaner Cayenne Diesels. Almost a year in a beautiful Porsche at no charge to me. The dealership tinted the windows and added winter tires at my request. Today I was informed that Porsche will no longer supply the CDs as loaners and will not be selling 2016 or 2017 CDs. Very disappointing. My dealership has a sister Audi dealership and so I have ordered a fully loaded Q7 instead. I would like to complement Pfaff Porsche in Vaughan (Ontario), and specifically John Nicholford, for an absolutely outstanding dealership experience. Good luck to you all with the on-going emissions issue and I will forever envy your driving experience, comfort, torque and mileage.

Don't be too upset. The Q7 is a nice vehicle indeed and actually built on the platform that will underpin the next gen Cayenne. So while you may be giving up a few MPG, take heart in knowing that you have a part of the new Cayenne before anyone else does!

I gotta ask though, given that absolutely stellar treatment, why go with the Q7 rather than a gas Cayenne and support the Porsche dealer?

I opted for the Q7 from the same salesperson. The Audi dealership is the same family brand (Pfaff) as the Porsche dealership and my sales representative will make the sale. The Q7 fully loaded was about 20Gs less than a lesser optioned Cayenne S. The power specs are similar, 0-60 is similar, and the Q7 has more up-to-date technology. Should Porsche or Audi continue at some point with the Diesel I may go Cayenne again. I absolutely love the car, but the Q7 is no slouch.

Agreed. I passed on one in favor of a 958, for a couple of reasons.
One being I just didn't want to drive yet another generic-looking vehicle, same as a ton of others I see daily on the roads around here (DC suburbs). Sure, lots are Q5's, but still, there's a uniqueness to the Porsche look, which the Q7 just doesn't have.
Second, while the center console on the Cayenne isn't exactly simple-looking, the large flat touchpad in the Q7 really seems poorly placed. Just asking for trouble with moisture from being used as cupholder by mistake.
Otherwise, I loved the all-digital screen in the dashboard. Really nice having all that info and options for changing it. The 958's little round one is a nice addition beyond just the one on the radio, but the Q7 has it beat by a mile.
As for handling, there's no comparing them and for most folks it'd never matter.

That is not going to make me happy if I lose my favorite drive!

^My wife's new Cayenne GTS arrived yesterday and so today I to spoke with the dealer, and I asked him if they were also ready to take back my daughter's VW Jetta TDi. He told me that the VW Buyback was "about" to start and that he would take it from me and park it somewhere until it was gone.
I also asked about the 3.0 Diesel and he told me that he was positive that a similar deal would happen for Porsche. No details, other than the fact that the dealers are getting a lot of pressure from customers and sharing it with PAG...

That has to be a misunderstanding of the numbers.
I thought the 85,000 number was the total of the 3.0l engines out there. Take 25K out of that and it leaves 60,000, some of which are still Audis in the sedans and Q5s, as well? Why would they agree to a buyback of some of their 3.0l engines and not all? And before the 3.0l settlement is proposed to the court?
This makes no sense at all.
Plus, you would think that if they had agreed to this, they would have updated their website for the 3.0l engines: https://www.audiusa.com/about/diesel...tion/v6-diesel

Page 12 of the August 25th court transcript list 20,000 generation 1 3.0 diesels, which consists of Q7 and Touaregs. Pag 16 seem to imply those are the hardest to meet the EPA/CARB requirements and have a different engineering team working on them. Maybe they gave up?
