It seems more intentional that it is prepped so it could accept one (the hood isn't limited to the turbo though..) and there isn't one. Perhaps the pre-release testing told Porsche something. It might just be it muffles the intake roar when the fun pedal is fully depressed, or it could be for a real reason.

I guess we'll hear.. I'd suggest you add coolant and oil temperature to the mulfi-function-display, I suspect that readout is more accurate than the buffered analog readouts.

Thank you. I found it on sonnen porsche for $103 before tax and shipping. I was just curious because it is a fairly large piece and I imagine sonnen would change a minimum of $30. I found the ebay listing from cardid. Did yours a genuine porsche did it have a Porsche sticker on it?

The label was covered in packing tape, but does list the part number noted and the item description is in german......good enough for me

@ deilenberger I'll do as you said and keep an eye on temps. Being Seattle based might help compared to say AZ.

So a few data points here after a 30 min drive @ 75 degrees using the digital oil/water temp gauge displays o monitor temperatures.

-warmed up and driving 50 mph: water temp always at 201, oil between 203-210, up a hill it crept to 215.

-sport mode and spirited driving: water temp always at 201, oil temps lowered to a low of 197.

-idling in my driveway for 5 minutes after the drive: water temp always 201, and oil steady at 215.

Appear normal?

Dunno - next time I'm out in mine, I'll put those up instead of the compass and something else. Only thing is that might be a few days - weather looks to be top-down weather, so the Boxster gets used mostly. None of those temperatures are scary to me. 215 oil is good for burning the moisture out of the oil.

Water temp staying steady - I kind of wonder if they're buffering that like they do the analog gauge - since the temperature is electronically controlled to aid in running the engine at the most efficient temperature for the conditions.

I agree. Nothing wrong with those temps. I think if the pad does affect temperatures they will be negligible. As far as appearance is does look much better. In fact when I bought my 2012 CTT I thought it had been discarded before I bought it.

Thinking that running temps would change from this is about as silly as adding something that was not designed by the folks in the know. What you would see is prolonged and possibly higher than normal underhood temps when you shut off the engine. I can't imagine that will help all of that plastic in there! Doing this for esthetics (on the underside of the hood where it's not seen!) does not seem to outweigh the risks.

I wonder if it rubs on the intake manifold or something?

I think I'm gonna get the insulation pad next week. I have a sound meter so I'm gonna take some before and after measurements.

If this insulation quiets the stupid check valve clicking, I'll install also.

On another note, we can post this thread anytime a newbie comes on and says, "My engine is making a strange noise"

Interested to hear feedback from others once they get theirs installed.

It remains odd to me that this is a Porsche part, with a Porsche part number, available at a Porsche dealer, and that installing it could have any ill effects. So far so good here.

I wonder if the hood insulation has something to do with EU sound restrictions that we don't have here in the US. Do the EU Cayennes come with the pad?

Are you happy with the pad? Do you notice any difference in loudness?

I don't notice any difference relating to noise, but the engine bay looks much more tidy to me. I'm not sure why these were omitted in the end.....my Panamera has one, same engine.
