After reading the detailed comparison between the original and my clone/fake/reproduction/custom badge, I can clearly see the differences.
That said, from a distance, it's nearly impossible to see such details and I got it for two reasons: 1- I prefer the silver/black/red color combination over the gold (nothing gold in my vehicle) and 2- for something that small and cosmetic, I'd rather spend ±$70 vs. $200.
Return shipping costs make it prohibitive to send it back, so that is out of the question too. C'est la vie. I'll enjoy it for what it is.

- they're usually handmade
- you can customize to match the vehicle (pewter badge on my black Cayenne, gold looked gaudy)
- you can always switch back...or go crazy for a special event. What the heck...have different badges for different moods.

What symptoms did you have bearing noise? That looks like it was fun!

I had intermittent/ varying bearing noise depending on the engine load. It was bad pinion bearings. I got a used one for $600 shipped (and an other $100 in one time use hardware); I'm going to try to rebuild the one I took out. Porsche says they aren't rebuildable but sell reman versions... Might try it myself if I can find the time.
How many miles? I hear about this often not really sure why these things fail when soaked in oil.

I just did a feel by hand, check for any odd noises and look at the oil; if the oil is drained pop open the drain plug, stick the end of a rag it to check for any metal flakes or particles on the bottom of the case.
I'm not sure that causes the failure of the pinion bearings but in the first gen Touareg carrier bearings (either side of the diff) failure was common if you had tires with different levels of wear. Everyone on the Touareg forums said the front diffs were the week link in the drivetrain; the gen one Touareg diff looks nearly identical except for a couple casting differences, the mounting tabs for the PDCC distribution block, and flange size.
