And then there was misfire with code as P0300, P0302 so I replaced the 2nd engine coil which removes these codes. Then I replaced new battery and bought Starter to replace but before replacing it I took help from a nearby Indy shop, he tried not able to move crank pulley. So he said the engine is seized and it needs to rebuild. Is this true? Please suggest if any one has an idea to take steps.

Thanks,

This doesn't add up... I am seeing oil pump drive chain failures with the M48 engines, but their failure dynamics differ from your experience.

So I took my beloved 48k 2008 Cayenne GTS 6MT into the dealership around 2 weeks ago because of strange nose coming from the engine around 2200 RMP. The noise would abruptly cease at 1800 RPM in any gear. After a lot of engine tear down, it was determined that the nickel coating was deteriorating from one of cylinder walls and there is scoring in another.

Their recommendation as well as Porsche regional's? Engine replacement to the tune of $27,000. Warranty has expired. Makes me want to laugh and cry at the same time.

The oil has never been low and has always been changed by the dealership on time. She's always been run on premium gasoline.

Is this the same issue that others have had with their engines? Is this known manufacturing effect?

What's the coldest temperature this engine has been started in recently, say, in the last year?

This is the only thing that kills Cayenne engines. They are what's adding a ton of backlog to my schedule.

Not sure what the coldest temperature was. I live in Colorado but always have had the vehicle garaged both at home and work.

Is there anything else that can be done with engine beyond replacing it?

Interesting thread, does anyone know where I can get all the torque specs for the 955/957 Cayenne?

Does anyone know if replacing the short block would fix the issue instead of the whole engine?

In addition to the unanswered questions above, were those the only two cylinders that showed problems? That is, was there zero scoring or wear in the other six cylinders?

This is getting so damn common, at least with the N.A. engines that I'm almost hearing a Class Action Lawsuit starting.

A shortblock would be replacing your pistons and cylinders which would mean replacing the worn parts in your diagnosis. As long as the heads are fine and nothing else needs to be replaced, this should fix your problem. Less parts cost, more labour cost. Check heads while they are out, etc etc etc......

I don't know if the short blocks come with upgrading cylinder coatings or modified piston-cyl clearances or not, so the chances you are preventing this from happening again are unknown to me. Someone else with more knowledge could chime in here.

When you have a builder do it, or DIY, you can match-hone cyl-pistons and replate to upgraded coating, and also install piston oil-squirters from Turbos. These upgrades would prevent the failure from happening again from what I understand.

Regards,

New old stock engine. Who wants to start a class action lawsuit with me?

I hold the data!

My 5.1 with Nikisil cylinders and built by one human is less money than that!

So would a GM or Ford small block. If this occurred to me, I"d either repower with your work or just go US.

This really stinks for the poor guy.
