Do you mean they sell only short blocks? Or what's a 'short lock'? I've never heard that term.
Anyway, I"d think a factory short block is a good way to go if you want stocker. Personally, if faced with this, I'd go for a bored rebuild but I'm not everybody.
A short block requires the cylinder heads and valve train from the core engine to be swapped onto the new internals supplied from Porsche. This means that the shop or dealer is tasked with a proper rebuild of the heads and valve train as well as swapping all ancillaries.
Needless to say, this is swamping my program even more than it previously was..

The service manager told me porsche NA doesnt offer short blocks any more either. The servicing dealer ordered all the parts and rebuilt it themselves. It feels and sounds great, but I was a little nervous about them doing that much work
I bought my 2009 Cayenne GTS with 38,000 miles. It had a complete crate engine installed by Porsche at 18,000. It had broke a timing chain. Great for me because all that mess showed up on the Car Fax! I got a really good price as a result and a brand new full dress engine. They only moved the AC compressor. I've got 58,000 miles and smooth sailing.
More roadblocks trying to get block repaired. Considering LN-Engineering now, but I have already bought pistons and don't want to pay for another set. Also considering Darton's installation site Race Engine Development. - They may potentially sleeve the block for me.

Will keep you guys updated as I move forwards...
What type of pistons did you buy? If they are Nikasil compatible you can have the block plated by us nichrome thru 928 motorsports. They can build up the surface quite a bit and they have a torque plate for the 4.5
Yea I'm impressing myself, will never do this again though it is such a PITA... (just the removal and installation of the engine from the car alone...) the rebuild is actually quite easy to be honest, just took a lot of research to figure out what I was going to do. Hopefully it comes together nicely.
I know, from experience, that it's a lot of extra work, but if you could document with pics what you're doing it would make a great write-up that would help many. Based on what Jake has posted, I have a bad feeling that there will be a lot of rebuilds to come.
Excellent idea - I have taken pics along the way and am planning to do a write-up once I have finished, I am just strapped for time. I did a write-up for my SC rebuild so this will be similar but more in-depth!
There are not enough resources out there so hopefully I can start to help...!
