I'm not the least bit disappointed. Got one of the last '09 Turbos on purpose....
And yes, Porsche is a giant thief. They produce a much cheaper engine for this model for '10, saving upwards of 20k, and increase the price of the vehicle. That alone made my decision for me, knowing I had a long-proven historied engine, and a great deal on top of that, and nothing I've seen for '10 made my tongue wag.

+1 - did the same - went out and bought a new 2009 a week ago - had read all about he 2010 and its many qualities. But I wanted the old faithful motor and 6 sp transmission - I love the car I got and am sure it will keep me very satisfied for years to come (ok maybe 3 years )

Funny how posts like this happen every 1-2 years as Porsche does something new to stimulate their economy. I'm not picking on anyone, I'm just saying that there is always a frenzy associated with the 'latest and greatest.'
Fact of the matter is that most of us, even those of us who love the track, will never get the full potential out of these cars. The cars are getting easier and easier to drive without doubt with things like PSM and PDK. To me this is a mixed blessing at best. There was a time where I fully believed that one should have the latest and greatest technology so that one can go fast on the track. As time has gone on, my thoughts have completely changed about this. Yeah I can drive my 997TT at 150 mph in a downpour but aside from the traction and crazy acceleration it doesn't thrill me at the track like my Boxster.
Let's be real,....unless you really feel the need to own the latest and greatest, it doesn't matter if you drive a 930, 964T, 993T, 996T or 997T.....they're all a blast!

Well said Coochas but what we have here is much more than a new engine in the top of the line Turbo. This change represents a paradigm shift in philosophy at Porsche. There was a time when the engines were derived directly from race cars and the cars were hand built. The Turbo was always the epitome of this process, now it's somewhat less to a lot of us. Still a great car but not the same, kind of sad really.

The points enumerated by Coochas, TT Gasman, and Itc are well taken. In recent years, I have owned a 997s, a 2007 turbo, and presently a 2008 turbo. On August 7 when the new engine was confirmed I cancelled my November build slot for a 2010 turbo and requested my deposit (made 2 years earlier) be returned.
I did not mention, however, I also owned a Cayenne turbo and I will never again beta test a vehicle for Porsche.

For information only, here are some prices on various Porsche crate motors. These are PCA member prices and do not include a core charge.
996TT $ 28498.01
996TT X50 $ 27167.34
996GT2 $ 31602.82
997TT $ 24145.71
997GT2 $ 24555.95
DFI TT TBA
DFI 997 $ 12563.50
DFI 997 X50 $ 15784.25
Panamera TT $ 12491.53
08 Cayenne TT $ 11624.94
09 Cayenne TT $ 12464.96
You can see the true dry sumps are more expensive, more than 2X as much. Interestingly the Cayenne TT motor is about the same as the DFI 997. No price yet on the DFI TT motor.

Are we sure the above prices are comparing like specifications ie similar number of "crate" components ?
If yes then the DFIs are not that cheap after all. There is only $9K difference between the X50DFI and the 997GT2 - VGTs on the GT2 cost more than that !!! WTF ?
Something doesn't look right there ?

Very interesting...... why is my damn 997GT2 motor so cheap
Seriously it looks like they are either making a bigger profit on the Mezger 996 stuff or else they have saved some money somewhere on the 997 Mezgers. Maybe the new Spanish made crankcases ? Certainly the VTG turbo units are much more expensive than the 996 KKK16 or 24 jobbies.....

The honest to goodness truth is that we have to have the latest and the greatest. Your 2009 Turbos however will be remembered. I bet that some of you that are somewhat doubtful of the 2010 now will be getting one in the future. Most of the 2009 owners now are in denial (which is a normal reaction when something new comes out).
