Not to mention also no maintenance history or any documentation. No dme report, lots of unanswered questions. Everyone saw the interior and ignored the most important bits. 🤷‍♂️

I think a complimentary school of thought though is that if you're prepared to pay big money for a car being sold online, you should really spend the time/money to see it in person. Getting a PPI would be ideal as well. I'm not disputing the shadiness of the seller, but the buyer (IMO) does bear some responsibility for actual due diligence. If the buyer of that car checked it and was ok with the condition, then they found value in it that maybe not all of us on the sidelines did. Of course, the other way this could go is that the buyer doesn't actually end up taking possession of the car if he looks at it before paying his monies.

I didn't want to trash this too much in the auction comments, but this is a bit of a mess. RNM happening in the next coupe hours? I expected this might have been posted but couldn't find it. Are those 981 GT4 wheels it has on?

There's a moderately infamous thread about this car in the regular 997 forum.

I suppose whatever minimum standard C&B has this must exceed it. I've heard they are quite aggressive with how they set reserves so maybe it will actually sell? You'd think the guy if he has his "own shops" could afford to put in matching tail lamps and respray the rear bumper just to alleviate some obvious exterior red flags right away. I don't have time right now to comb through the whole thread but found it amusing the previous owner is trashing commenters as well as the current seller in the same reply.

Looks like seller realized the car was a mess and now everyone knows it and lifted reserve. Someone might get a good deal on that hot mess.

Sold for $42,250 before fees. Honestly kind of surprised it went that high.

Same seller had the worst Ferrari F430 manual conversion I've ever come across. Multiple repaints, excessively sketchy history, much of it masked behind his vague comments (on BAT) of "Runs perfect! This car is 100%!" and more. Called the repaints "paint corrections" until he was called out on it. I see the same hype on this turbo with the "will run for another 200,000 miles, no problem." I would not want to be on the receiving end of that car at any price.

Winner was a dealer, and apparently purchased for his own use.

I can see the latter being true, as BaT is at "Retail Plus" pricing levels, and factoring $5K BaT fees and easily $3K+ in enclosed shipping given car is in rural UT, there is no meat on the bone for a dealer 'flip'.

Another lower mileage example, $133k before fees:
https://carsandbids.com/auctions/3o7...11-turbo-coupe

Probably helped that Doug hyped this one up, but the low mileage 997.1 manual coupe market is still looking pretty strong.

I say this in the context of driver quality cars in the 30k+ mile range were trending slightly down or flatlining the last half of last year. I don't know that I see the needle moving one way or the other for that group, but sales like the one above certainly can't hurt.

(I also don't really care where values go, I just think it's fun to speculate)

I reckon Doug's review definitely helped up that car's 'aura' in terms of desirability / pricing / value / perception. Also we have the spring effect (recall the GT Silver that just sold on BaT over the weekend sold for $136,555 on BaT, and sold on C&Bs this winter for $106,500 [winning bidder faded so owner kept the car till now]). The market has not moved upwards by 30% in 6 months, its the typical 'who do you have in the room' when it comes to these auction sites.

On that note, BaT and C&B are Retail Plus pricing. I look at Autotempest and ironically the best deals are with...dealers! Not sure you guys saw this week the 15K mile single-owner car that was listed for $115K in IN (Toom Wood Porsche), but that would have sold for well over $130K on either BaT or C&B (wouldn't be surprised if a flipper picked it up and we will see it listed soon).
