On Autotrader alone, there are 27 997 GT3s listed for sale by 22 different sellers. Who exactly is cornering the market?
RFMC or Merit Partners asking top dollar for a few unicorns has little impact on someone’s ability to source a driver quality example at a reasonable price.
And what’s with the suggestion that enthusiast can’t afford the best cars? Do you have to be financially limited to be considered an enthusiast?
Cars can be investments. Any asset you purchase with the goal of appreciation is an investment. Doesn’t mean it’s a good one. Not all investments provide a positive ROI. Many stocks decline in value but they are still investments. Investment is defined by intended outcome, not actual outcome.

Agreed. I think Steve’s observation has merit in that a handful of high-end dealers may be trying to corner the market, but as you say, only for the top dollar, super low mileage cars that will likely just go back to collector-oriented types. I also think it’s worth noting that we see their asks, but not their sale prices. I shopped both the Merit Pumpkins when they were recently listed. Both were ~300, and neither were worth that, mileage notwithstanding. I know from inside sources they didn’t get that for at least one of them.

Is there some knock-on effect from the Merit, GP, Zweck, etc. pricing? Sure, but probably not statistically significant at this point. I’d look at Classic.com for historical market trend data, as it seems pretty comprehensive in terms of # of sales tracked. These cars are trending up irrespective of optimistic dealer pricing. But the vast majority of sales are private market / smaller dealer, so the aggregate sales data reflects the market as a whole; not just the top dollar dealers. Also remember that those dealers are not paying what they’re asking. They have to have a margin that makes the acquisition worth their time and financed money.

What happened to their ADM sticky thread? So bad but you had to read it. It was like the Bravo channel of Rennlist.

Keep things on track only discussing 997 GT3's for sale. No need to rehash that dealers list cars for a mark up.

Spot on. Doesn't matter who's doing the buying or selling. The market dictates the price.

Off limits to buyers in the US, but guys from Canada can import it. 15 vs our 25 import rule. Know only 2 .1 RS’ in the US were specced in this white/red color combo.

I don't think anyone is going to be getting a .2 driver for a good deal any time soon. There are only two .2s on auto trader that actually have a price, and the cheapest listed price is $190k... youch.
