The 997 GT3/RS Cars For Sale Thread...
Not just time, but also timing, as in being first. On cars that are listed for sale publicly you often have so much buyer competition that first to wire funds wins. I've bought cars sight unseen because dealers were willing to wire funds to the seller immediately, with no PPI or other hassles. I had to do the same in order to secure the car. Granted, I'm only willing to do this when the price is low enough to warrant taking the risk. Ideally you find a private seller that has not listed the car for sale yet and you can have a civilized transaction where you have time to properly inspect the car and negotiate a deal. However, this tis a rare occurrence in the GT market nowadays.

Bought mine through Doug. Didn’t even occur to me that I should go and see in person! Probably couldn’t have anyway. Car was as described, no surprises. This is likely more of a testament to Doug’s reliability than safety of buying these “sight unseen”.
Bought cars without seeing, just have to talk with owner… sometimes several times. Ask for history and video if needed, but most issues come up in conversation.
Also sold several cars to owners sight unseen…I just send vids or FaceTime, strike up a relationship and have had no issues.
I am referring to a ‘private seller’….maybe I have been lucky, but done several transactions with zero issues.
YMMV

Same here. Doug was up front with me telling me what maintenance the car would need and the car was priced accordingly. I wouldn't waste my time going to see it with Doug as the seller.
Same. After agreeing to a deal with Doug, he put me in contact with the owner. One conversation and I felt "warm and fuzzy". Sent funds. Vehicle arrived nicer than advertised. Never saw the car until she landed.

I bought mine through Doug as well, however I like seeing what I am buying. It does not reflect poorly on Doug by any means, as he bought my 996TT sight unseen.
Mike was very open and transparent too.
Guess I am just old school. A roundtrip ticket to MN was peanuts, and I got to sneak in a lunch with a bunch of folks from work.

I do think this is right if you can make happen. I was fortunate in that I was looking for a .2 RS years ago that got sold out from under me. Mooty heard / knew of that and messaged asking if I was still looking. He wasnt interested because it had the front axel lift and the "wart" Really just asked 2 questions - Am I ready to buy now and have my finances in place, and what questions I had (looking to see if I was a tire kicker). I asked if he'd buy the car otherwise and the answer was yes and so placed the value in that. From there asked price and he gave me a number to give the seller and say that he sent me. Connected and wired money the next day. Car was in California and I'm in NY. Had shipped to my race shop in Connecticut to have the coolant lines done, 5-lug conversion, and over to steel rotors. Picked it up and saw it the first time a month after I bought it.
Same with my 991.1 Cup as well as its sale 3 years later, and my acquisition of my 2003 996 Cup. Also bought or sold by buying the seller (or bought knowing of me and how I maintained my cars).
If you dont know that or have someone you really know knows these cars and trust - then using someone who does seems really important.

I think is original ask was high 7 months ago, especially without the buckets or E88s, but ~140 isn't unrealistic right now for the miles and (presumed) condition . . .
