LOL, well said.....I dint read the novel
Never understood why someone who cannot drive a street tire at the slip angle for a lap purchases Hoosiers.....or worse slicks. I see this all the time. You think you are going faster, but in reality the grip of the tire is masking your bad habits. With stickier tires bad things happen at a higher rate of speed......just ask the 996 GT3 on slicks that t boned the wall in front of me on sticker Michelin Blues......it took three turns after he passed me (on Toyo) to overdrive the car into the wall
This is just a fun hobby, different storkes for different folks.......but if you want to become a better driver, with better skill......check your ego, throw away your lap timer and run a street tire. With the money saved by running street tires, hire a coach.
As far as lap times go....at COTA, if you are not consistantly sub 2:29 (including traffic) in a 2010-11 GT3RS......you are underdriving your hoosier by a large margin and should learn your car on a less sticky tire so when you get to the point of moving up tires....you are ready

I personally like my slicks though as it's even easier to drive (for me) as I'm not sliding around as much as I was on street tires/sport cups. The grip is huge, but as that Vorslag graph showed, if you drive outside of the tires limits, it snaps pretty hard. Pretty easy to stay inside the limits though.

Very nice saves, Peter. Yeah, if you're on slicks, it's pretty hard to slide through an entire corner. The tires grip so hard, it's pretty hard to rotate the rear end unless you're doing something wrong. That has been my limited experience though.

Unless you have Pat Long/ Sean Edwards like catlike reflexes, that event is an off track excursion on slicks. Some slicks more friendly than others, but frankly I wouldn't want to do that on any tire.

It's not stock; I actually modded it with the intention of becoming a better driver while shopping for the used Nissan, which I found in less than a week. Murphy works both ways

Believe it or not, you can hang the tail way out like Ari Vatanen in a Mk 1 Escort and it loves it, an unexpected surprise. It's not quick on the track though, and you need to be careful not to run out of room to catch it, that I need a lot of practice at doing faster.

I agree slicks are harder on the suspension/wheel bits and the driver. People give me crap for hand positioning in my videos, but most of the time I'm having to jam my left elbow into the door to get from coming out of the seat. Vette seats are horrible for track work if you didn't already know.

Re: the brakes, higher average speeds will heat up the brakes more, but my track wheel/tire package is quite a bit lighter than stock, so that should help a little bit.

Your video is a prime example of whats deplorable about the GTR. Your steering mechanics are horrible and if you get into a situation where even the GTR needs some help to escape you have no chance. Your entry to the turns is bad, line looks bad yet here you are talking about lap times instead of learning the most basic of track driving fundamentals like not driving like you are pulling into your garage every turn. And on slicks at that! Id much prefer slower people on track in the advanced/intermediate group that at least know the basics.
Unfortunately this is the type of driver we see in GTRs over and over again. People who want to go fast without learning how to do it properly from a drivers perspective.

This will be easier and better in a slower, lower grip simpler car. I asked Rick at TDE if it was OK to bring the Audi and he did concur on the idea with me and Bill Dollahite. I was a little concerned about becoming a traffic problem, but it's quicker than it looks.
