Peter, you'll be happier in a 4.0, I think.

Gt2 RS
With carbon fender option

Last factory Porsche to combine the following
600+hp, gt1 block, non hybrid, 2wd, manual trans

I know it would be far less money to buy a 997 gt2 and mod it but the gt2 RS is compelling

That being said, a lot of gt3 guys that make the move to gt2 end up going back to gt3

If I could I would gt2 RS but sadly my wife's predeliction for additional children and a new house means my super modded .1rs is around for a while

Exactly!

Is the GT2RS 100k more compelling than a GT2. Especially after mods.
GT2 for now then switch.
991 GT3 RS (which will be incredible)
or the 991 GT2 RS with PDK which will both be north of 200k anyway.

But before you decide, drive a McLaren. I hope to have some footage next week if the weather cooperates.

Looking forward to hearing what you think of the GT2RS after a drive,...

Yes and no.
4.0 more pure and fun. GT2RS adds more of a challange to learn to drive torque. Both probably do similar lap times.

Don't like the sound and less down force, also worried about giant power differences depending on the weather..

Love the no clown look, but besides thevrearvwing most of the clown can be removed.

I would think on bigger tracks like Sebring, Daytona, VIR and so forth that the GT2RS would be faster than the 4.0. Yes?....No?.... GT@ RS has the great suspension and more power and from what I've read about it is the Turbo lag is not bad and noticeable like turbo's of the past.

Reter, SportAuto SuperTest is your best source. They perform the most extensive and instrumented testing of all car magazines on this planet.

At the wind tunnel (200kph or 125mph wind), they got the following downforce numbers:

Car: Front/Rear downforce
3.8 GT3: 15kg, 19 kg (RL Trivia, why does the GT3 3.8 produces more front downforce than the GT3 RS 3.8?)
3.8 GT3RS: 11Kg , 49kg
4.0 GT3 RS: 14Kg , 58kg
GT2 RS: 14kg , 35kg
Scuderia: 0Kg, 4Kg lift <== despite of the RL Fiat expertise that claims my car has massive downforce

At 186mph the 3.8GT3RS produces a total of 374 lbs of downforce per Porsche, the 4.0RS calculated from the Porsche advertised 193mph downforce produces 410 lbs of downforce at 186mph. Remember that downforce grows on an exponential level, so at 1/2 the speed (93 mph) the downforce numbers go way down, 94 lbs on the 3.8 RS and 103 lbs on the 4.0RS

Horst Von Saurma does the driving, and he is a very experienced Nurburgring driver. The following lap times were obtained in the SuperTest:

997.1 GT3 7:48
997.1 GT3 RS 7:48
991 Carrera S: 7:44
997.2 GT3 7:40
Scuderia 7:39
Italia 7:38
3.8 GT3 RS 7:33
4.0 GT3 RS: 7:30
GT2 RS 7:24

At the tiny little Hockemheim track (a big autoX):

Scuderia: 1:10.4
3.8 RS: 1:09.6
4.0 RS: 1:09.5 (almost same as 3.8 RS)
GT2 RS: 1:08.4

3.8 GT3 RS, 4.0 GT3 RS and GT2 RS are essentially the same cars, except the 3.8 GT3 RS doesn't have the carbon hood and carbon front fenders. Wheel sizes, tire sizes are all the same. Everything is compatible.

Suspension tuning has been getting better with every car, so the 997.1 GT3 RS got it better than the 997.1 GT3, the 3.8 GT3 got better, then the 3.8 RS got better, then the GT2 RS got better, and the latest version is on the 4.0RS. The suspension tuning is fine, but the aftermarket does much better

If you have experienced the acceleration difference between a 3.8 GT3 RS and my Scuderia, the same difference exists between my Scuderia and a GT2 RS.

Not similar lap times at all IMO. FI car should be much faster on all but the very hottest days, when the ECU retards it to "only" 500 hp. At that point, lap times will parallel, again IMO.

Yes on FI car being slightly harder to drive for exactly the reasons Van Overbeek says--less sensation of speed.

Agreed. This is the big downside--you can't hear the BRAAAAAP when you heel/toe downshift

Don't you think unless you drive it under 60F to 70C weather, you are going to be disapointed? These turbo cars are amazing, but I don't belive they do so well in hot weather. Gosh, buy the 4.0 PLEASSSEEEEEE.
