I was getting ready to send a check to pay off my car tomorrow.
Any other suggestions? Maybe my US policy covers it? Doubt it....
How did the guys do it that shipped the BMW's?..
Maybe not meant to be t ship own car.
Plan B is sign up for a few weeks in Europe with a rental rear wheel drive..

A rental will be easier for sure though. From my research it seems that you can only use very specific rental cars on the ring. So the car you rent to tour EU will probably not be able to be used on the ring.

yeah, i heard the same thing. you can rent a race car or track car specifically for the purpose, but don't use your street rental as the hire companies have spys taking pics all round the track....you won't be covered and you'll **** them off.

AFAIK the only other option might be USAA but you need to have a serviceman/woman in the family to quality for coverage. I am still waiting
to hear back from GEICO, but they keep asking a lot of questions...

was 'debatable' since the Nordschleife is a public road, but the contracts now
explicitly close that door....
I have a Sixt contract (that I tried to upload ...) as an example, from when I rented an M3 from them last year (around the time of the BMW school @ the Ring)
Its not clear to me that the 'rumours' of trackside spies is true, I have never heard of a 1st or 2nd hand case of someone going on-track and getting
caught in this fashion.
I did hear of a case when a couple of Irish guys (on pistonheads) got nailed for tyre and brake wear charges subsequent to a weekend at the ring.
bottom line, its risky and in violation of the rental contract, but if you dont crash and you dont wear out the brakes or tyres "I have known people" that have gotten away with this. (especially on private track days)

I have meetings in Germany the week of the 20th, expect to drive TF June 18-19 in a rental just to keep the track fresh in my memory. I hope to try what you are working on maybe next year - not in the cards this year. Dinner and beer at the Pistenklause June 17, 18, TF June 18, 19.

I'm not worried about renting a regular rental car before graduating to a track worthy rental car.
As soon as I know what the deal is I will study the lap on video for 2 laps a day..
Just found out that I'm stuck at work June 7th - June 23rd.
Manthey day could work (rental car) and maybe some other schools in July, Aug, Sept, maybe my car or school / rental cars..

... not sure about the 'includes afternoon tea' bit. kind of puts a damper on the experience ....
I was watching this on YouTube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8eXH7oI0XpE&sns=em
And then took a look at the courses offered....
http://www.porsche.com/silverstone/e.../psds/courses/
And then thought, how about a 3 day course at Silverstone, including the "Perfomance" and "Precision" courses ... Then off to the Ring for a tourist weekend ... Five days of Porsche magic!
Needless to say this would not be cheap ... But I was wondering if we could pull together a group from the US to do this ...
Anyone interested ... I am mad enough to do the legwork to organize

Yeah moved on from this to the G-Force and Nordschleife courses, I dont think they include afternoon tea... the latter usually includes tall cold bitburger in der pistenklause later

I hear ya ... some great drives in those 993's ... on some of the greatest back roads in the US. Bay Area gas prices .. got to love it given all the refineries we have around here ...
