ugh....
sorry to be blunt, but this thread is getting ridiculous.
if you want the best shifter you can fit into a 996 997gt3, just get the cup shifter and cup cable.
if you want the next best one, use ur current cable and 997 shifter.
if you can shifter slower and smoother then oem is just fine.
BK is a personal taste thing. some love it, some hates it.

+1

I know this is a subjective topic but searching for a shifter that's precise, short-throw and smooth at the same time is kinda like finding neverland... what matters to you more in the end? Mooty's post has your decision tree laid out

lol

The thought of kicking it with my foot came to my mind couple times.

I am keeping he stock shifter and go with 996 Cup car cable. For those of you gone this route before. Did you have to use a special tool to set the cable to stock shifter or do you just adjust the cable until it catch the gear? TRG told me they had to use a special tool to set the cable on stock shifter. The 996 shifter cable just went up to $486

PJ,

What made you go w/ the CMS instead of the 6Cup shifter? Just curious.. did you compare them?

You need the locking plastic tool to avoid trouble.

Locking plastic tool? Something we can get from ACE hardware? Do you need to adjust the length of the cable to fit the stock shifter assembly? How much better is the 6 Cup car shift linkage .. any picture of the setup?

Thanks

Mike
