Is the tool the same for each version of the shifter...996, 997.1 and 997.2 GT3?

TIA

Mooty, if Slow says I should use it to "avoid trouble", I'm happy to use it. I probably don't qualify as a "good tech", but I do enjoy the occasional DIY... and anxious to get this one done.

BTW, you headed to TH this weekend? Scott and I hope to see you there.

For the regular shifter of the 997 use the green plastc tool that also works on the 6 (which also had an older blue tool.)

Cup shifter has a white one; part number 996 424 395 02

I disagree with Mooty and although it's possible to install the shifter without one, I would recommend using the locking bridge to install especially If you are using the cup cables, because otherwise the clearance of the ball joints cannot be guaranteed and damage to the rod end bearings and joints can occur.
With the oem cables with the plastic joints with springs it can be easier but then again why risk it and make the installation more complicated..

This green tool is for a 997.2 GT3 shift console. 997.424.383.01

The white tool is for the Cup shift console. 996.424.395.03
