Unfortunately, AC is cost option, its if memory serves me a $ 1760 option and to add a radio its about $700, no XM available either just Ipod and Bluetooth.

I was at my dealer today and did a preliminary build on the sales configuration site, he was able to save it, but they have not received their allocations yet, but can transfer my build when they get their allocated.

Sales will not match enthusiasm for this car if the top does not fully enclose the cabin. The vast majority of potential buyers in the 987 segment are seeking a multipurpose sports car, often for DD requirements, not a fair weather only sports car to add to the stable.

I agree. There will be very few sales if it is just a Jeep-type 'bikini' top. It would be a deal-breaker for me; even for those of us not seeking a daily driver, there are times when you will want to secure it.

US configurator now up. You cannot paint the stock spyder rims, don't know if that is a mistake on the configurator. In order to color the wheels, you need to change them.

AC is $1760 (I think I'll pass)
Radio is free

That Spyder is hilarious. The pricing is through the roof it doesn't have.

It's $60K with nothing but the Cayman tune on the engine.
It's $70K in PDK form (noting that without SCP, PDK is always in "limp wrist" mode. PDK pricing is a scam. Porsche should make it plain that the trans really costs a lot more than the option price.)
It's $80K with PCCBs. $80K?!

I'm not surprised. I got a Cayman S to top $80K (without PDK) on the configuratoror and I didn't put anything on it that wasn't a performance option.

That's when I started thinking about a nice, used 997.1 GT3 as a daily driver.

The key to the spyder is to order it with virtually nothing. If I go ahead with one, I'll probably only add the radio which is free.

But that applies to all Cayman / Boxster, no? (regarding the PDK needs the SCP, PCCB costing 14% of the base car price, etc.)

Still think it is a decent deal (LSD, GT2 seats, etc.), and having this higher performance alternative is a step in the right direction.

Exactly. The point is weight. PDK adds weight and will get boring after a month, don't need NAV or sport chrono, I'll take a Sharky exhaust thank you and PCCBs are not unreasonable given what you pay on a 3 but do you really need them on a car that weighs 2,800 lbs and could easily take down to 2,600lbs?

At $80k, agreed. As someone else posted, the true value in the Spyder is buying a used one for $40k in a couple of years.

Yeppers. I specced one out in Grand Touring style and came in at $91,400

Cream/Carrera Red/
Bi-Xenon
Roll-bar exterior color
PDK w/Spt Chrono
PCCB
Wheels exterior color
NAV/Bluetoof/AUX

Yow.

It looks cool as hell and would make a ferocious back road cruiser/weekend track toy. But that is a sphincter tightening bottom line

Say what you will but PDK in Sport Plus and the PCCB's would be pure insanity on the track. My guess is easily faster than a 997.2S.

PDK adds "only" 55lbs and drops 0-60 from 4.9 to 4.6 seconds. The PCCB's remove approx 40 lbs. Radio is about 15 lbs. So you could spec the comforts and not ruin anything. (A/C would though)

Gotta add a Ti FVD/Brombacher exhaust too though...another $6-8k

Sigh........

If you're prepared to pay the big bucks on this car I'd add the PCCB but wouldn't stop there. X51 DFI would be a plug and play, and might as well get some HRE Carbon Series wheels to drop the weight a little further. With 408HP at that weight and w/ those brakes you'll be running w/ the big dogs and not look like the rest of the pack to boot.

I like it... not the price but it's neat looking for sure. And minus the decal...
