Dear Valued Nissan GT-R customers,
Thank you very much for purchasing Nissan GT-R. We deeply apologize for the late delivery of the Nissan GT-R.
The reason of the delay is due to the decrease in production of the Nissan GT-R model caused by the shortage of the special crutch for the transmission manufactured by the American maker.
Nissan GT-R is featured in the magazine and Internet, and getting excellent reputation in the market. In order to produce remarkably smooth and fast pick-up high speed as well as the powerful resistance in driving, the special crutch is required with the guaranteed high level of precision and function, which are far different from those for standard continental cars. Unfortunately, the delivery shortage of 50 ~ 200 vehicles / month is caused by the limited capacity of the current manufacturer’s production started since last year.
Maintaining the standard of quality of function and trust to all the customers is the Nissan GT-R’s the first priority. We guarantee the quality and precision in every production process with strict inspection. This is also the reason for the delay in delivery. There is absolutely no other factor of defect.
In addition, the manufacturer is in the progress of expanding its production plant urgently. It is planned to start production in March or April. Once the new plant is opened, the production will be on schedule.
We, again, would like to apologize for the inconvenience caused by the late delivery of the Nissan GT-R. We seek the customer’s understanding about the situation.
Thank you for continues support to Nissan GT-R at the moment and in the future.
Sincerely yours,
Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.

Reasoned or not, I dont believe its insecurity on Porsche Owners. is the constant barage of press from the car hacks.
Outrageous! Nissna SPANKS Porsche 911 Turbo and Corvette Z06. Shouts Road and Track
Nissan GT-R ! 0-60 in 3.3! Exclaims Car and Driver
We just get tired of the hype
Believe me I think everyone is for competition because in the Long run the GT3 will be a better car
But there are some half truths out there about this car. its 4000lbs and it out brakes the 911. It has a
(supposedly) 20hp disadvantage vs the Porsche 911 TT and its faster by SECONDS around the track?
Now there are reports that the Ring Time was set with a "Japanese" version? Whats that mean?
530HP to the wheels? Special suspension or pure Slick Race tires? I dont care if a car comes along and
exceeds the GT3 performance but this thing (the GT-R) has broken all the records. At 1000 lbs heavier and less HP. Some one has to call it. Now there are reports that the US versison GT-R is less powerful and slower than the 911 TT which it SPANKED in the Road and Track (with Factory Nissan Driver)

How do I know this?
I live in Aus and drive a Nissan 200sx (sylvia in some markets) which is a 2ltr turbo that weighs approx 1175kg. It was locally delivered. The "Japanese" version had a power output of 184kw whilst the Aussie version was 147kw. Same engine, same running gear... Found out that they used a restrictor on the turbo of the Aus version (basically a metal restrictor in an 8inch length of 1/4inch hose) and an exhaust with more restriction (to meet noise requirements). When I swapped this hose with another piece of 1/4inch hose the boost increased from 7.5psi to approx 11.5psi. $2= approx 25-30kw and thats on 98 octane fuel... Car mags were quoting 0-400m in 14.6-15.0sec. I pulled 14.32sec with a slipping clutch that had a week of life left in it (ran car with 125000km on the clock) and no other mods except the $2 hose...
Basically for a true comparison, you'll need to see how a locally delivered GTR compares (and hope it doesn't come with a $2 trick up it's sleeve)...
On the other hand, if I were Porsche, I wouldn't stand around scratching my ***...Its time the engineers were allowed to work some overtime 'to do their magic'. Enough of the marketing department and these incremental improvement philosophies- with competitors out their gunning for them, they're just making it a whole lot easier! They have been the benchmark for other manufacturers for a very long time and this ain't the time to be complacent... Unless they want to be the HAS BEEN of the performance car market...

The overwhelming press coverage of the GT-R makes armchair judgements impossible I think. While I enjoy reading all the magazine writeups, I really want to try the GT-R myself. I recall so many raving good writeups of the Aston DB9 when it first appeared. Yet when I drove it myself I was really disappointed.
I predict the GT-R will indeed to turn out to be very fast against more expensive competitors. But at 3800 lbs and controlled by computers, I also think it will be a letdown for GT3-type enthusiasts.

I'm not surprised. As electronics remove the driver from full control of the car, the driving experience is likely to diminish. Fast does not necessarily equal fun.

Like most ultra-fast cars, however, it was more fun on track than public roads. To me it's a supercar and a GT but not a sports car so much. Amazing machine nonetheless.

Here's the coupe de gras - reports coming out on the GTR forums that the Plasma cylinder wall coating may not be as durable as hoped. The engine life was targeted for 180k miles but the coatings will need replacement at 60k mile intervals - essentially a new shortblock since plasma spray is not a treatment done in but a few places in the world and if the cylinder actually needs an iron re-sleeve the siamesed aluminum cylinder walls are too thin to ensure efficient cylinder cooling (iron sleeves don't transfer heat the way aluminum can)

I am sure I can trust my local Nissan mechanic to fix a plasma cylinder problem. His name is Johnny Johnson number 423 out of 450 in his High school class.
BTW I read in another forum that since the Plasma is REALLY SENSITVE TO horsepower- tuning the motor after market
may void the warranty.

Hopefully Nissan will do the right thing for customers suffering such problems.
