I acheived it with some help so it cost me $ to do it. At the time, it was not a very common thing, so in a way and at the time, I would say quite proud...

Interesting.....

(This sorta reminds me of that old TV game show called "What's My Line".)

At the time it was not a common thing, so it might be more common today to see one achieve this milestone, or maybe it has gone out of fashion to do so today......hmmmm. I would say the latter, since at the time you were quite proud of the achievement, whereas today not many would think much of it as it's no longer a common thing for one to do. ... hmmmm.

Are you a collector of some kind?

No.

I do remember that TV show; it was a good one.

Hmmm....

Did you spend $ for every single unit that comprises the total of 500 said units?

Or was it just $ in general spent on achieving the milestone of 500?

Hmmm....

Was it achieved in (a) one day, such as playing a pinball machine or other game of skill and hitting that high score?

Or (b) achieved over a period of time, possibly years?

It wasn't a sales figure, as this wouldn't have cost you anything to achieve; on the contrary hopefully earned you bucks in the process. So a sales milestone is ruled out.

Sports activities are ruled out, so it was not something achieved by swinging a bat or any game of skill or chance, right?

Yet, it is something significant for you that was achieved over a period of time. So significant that you have personally identified with this achievement to the extent of making it your username. ..... hmmmm.

Did each unit of said number 500 take place individually in time?

Or did some occur in bunches together at the same instant of time?

There were actually three units of 500 achieved all within the same year (1985) but I'm only referring to one in my user name here. As I previously mentioned in today's world it's still somewhat significant yet still not so very common for the most part. In 2006 was almost at 500 again but fell short in one respect and went 16 over in another.

Gentlemen, the 500 I refer to is truly nothing earth shattering, but at the time (over 20 years ago) and especially only being 25 years of age it was significant for me and significant in it's own right. Ben and a few others seem to enjoy a little sleuth work so I'm playing along wondering how much longer it will take for someone to figure it out..
