The "peg" of the "spear" is a tubular structure that can go through the panel and be melted down to secure the bezel in place. You can see the picture of a new spear with pegs in the picture below (2nd picture). To remove the existing original tabs, just insert the tip of the solder into the "donut hole" and pull the spear away from the back. You'll likely burn away the pegs in order to separate it from the door panel. The last picture shows that after removal, what the spear pegs look like melted away. When putting the new spear, you have to cut the new pegs down a bit. Screw the screw into the hole of the peg to secure the new spear with the door panel.

I guess you cannot re use the spears if you pull them off to refinish them as you would have nothing to screw into at that point due to the melting of the peg upon removal - correct?

Partially yes. You may be able to take your time and carefully burn away the tab so it won't look as mangled. But I don't think you would want the old spear anyways, or re-use it as the labor and the time to do this replacement again isn't worth using an old part. I save my old spears just so I can give them to the next owner for completeness and originality's sake.

Do you have part number for spears if I decided it to seperate that part?

I don't have the parts numbers. But you can google "porsche 997 window switch bezel" and get a bunch of results. Look through them as different color, car models would carry different part numbers. good luck.

I know a few people recently seem to have posted about buying some - curious about where from, cost, experience.

Thanks.
Long shot here, but I have a factory painted white one in very good shape. Will practically give it away!

I too am interested in going leather for my console. What’s the thoughts on the two main aftermarket leather vendors mentioned in the OP?

I'm not trying to be snarky, but if you want to pay close to double the price, I'm sure either of those vendors is fine. For half the price, and more stuff, you go with my suggestion from Latvia, the heavy smash guy on ebay. Can't beat $1700 for the console, cubby lid, ebrake with handle and banana, shift **** and boot and the trim under the stereo stack

I second what Frybear said about the value that heavy-smash-salvage-lp provides. However, you want to be careful and make sure Heavy-Smash's stitching colors will match with your existing OEM leather panel's thread color. My leather console from Heavy Smash was an OEM take off so the color fits perfectly. Frybear may be able to confirm if this is a problem.

Now, if you want to go with one of the 2, between Exclusive options vs Classic9, then I would go with Exclusive option even though they are more expensive. I have the leather window switch spears and the manual shift surround bezel from Exclusive Options, and I can vouch for their quality. Most of all, their stitching size, gap, thickness of leather, and color match better with your other original leather parts (see my picture in the previous threads). As for Classic9, judging from their pictures online, Classic9 products looks less "OEM" than Exclusive option and a bit more like a work of good re-upholster.
