A smart person will buy that car and have thousands and thousands of miles of fun while still having a bunch of money still in their pocket. There will be no self imposed limitations on making it a garage queen or hesitancy on putting miles on their new to them fancy sports car or heaven forbid, taking it out in the rain. They will just drive it, take care of it and have no concerns other than enjoying the car for what it is and for what is was intended to be. In a few years or maybe another 50 to 100,000 miles and then spring for a valve job and rings and it will be back to functionally new.
$40 for new side marker lights and bingo, it now is a $50,000 car!
The neurotics worrying about everything need not apply.

Valve job? rings? New? $50,000 250,000 mile 997?
Maintenance is a relative term with any car that’s got 250,000 miles on it. Contrary to some opinions , mechanical items( like most things) don’t get better with time. There is a lifespan for every part in that car, with not one I can think of getting better as mileage or age progresses.
It would be interesting to see the total service record of this car. Maybe a lot maybe not?
Granted small % of 997's have unfortunate circumstances like IMS & Bore Scoring issues but relatively low.
I'm not surprised of the mileage on this car. If these cars are well serviced they run like a sewing machine.
You missed the whole point cdk4219. The 50K is a joke for Pete's comment about the amber marker lights. The $29k is a good buy for someone for this car. I did not pull a Carfax on this , but looking at the pictures , My guess is the guy owns the construction business and keeps the car housed there. He bought it new with all the "options" you ever need for a real 911 which is not much beyond the stick shift. He wanted to go with the special color for his own reason; he likes it; it is his company logo color, it is the color of his wife's eyes etc. Being the possible owner of all that heavy equipment, he knows everything about machinery and how to care for it. That car was serviced perfectly and as required. I guess he drove it to distant job sites because he could and racked up road miles, rather than 6 mile trips downtown to the office like many others. Now for the $29 k the new owner can go to cars and coffee and be the one that gets all the attention due to the beautiful PTS blue color. When they say it has 250,000 miles, he will be the talk of the meet. The guy with the 800 mile 918 will just be another car owner there.
I have had many German cars that I put on well past 400,ooo miles. I sell them at 400,000 to 475,000 miles to friends that drive them forever. I have never fully rebuilt any of them. I do all my own work. A head gasket, valve seals, maybe grind valves , replace cam chains etc, all easy stuff and cheap to do. Every super high milage BMW engine that I have looked at never even required rod or main bearings.
Your milage will vary.
Looks really nice, especially given the mileage. I've seen 997's with 40K miles in worse condition. The miles obviously gets your attention. Wonder what's been done to it but the listing suggests there are service records from one owner. I can't recall seeing one with 250K miles +. Can't remember the exact miles but I know Bruce in Philly is way up there. Wonder how far they'll go before major work is needed.
Well it is a car dealership that has it listed. They have it listed once for a buy it now and on an auction as well. I believe they share the lot with a heavy equipment dealer as well. It does seem in nice condition for 250,000 miles, but no bites at $29k. Auction is up to $14k now
