Hello,

I am currently having a 991 base 7-speed go through a PPI. Surprisingly, there are a lot of over revs. My mechanic says there's mixed opinions. What do you all think about this DME?

range 1: 169\3228.42h
range 2: 22\3130.24h
range 3: 21\3130.24h
range 4: 199\3130.24h
range 5: 470\3130.24h
range 6: 53\3130.24h

If you look at the last 2 pictures of the recent listing for this car on PCarmarket, you will see a DME report with the same over revs, but at operating hours that are exactly 10 times less than on that DME report that you are listing?.

Over revs in range 6? I'd walk away. Period. Will never be eligible for CPO with over revs in 5/6. Engine has been run out of spec. You might get lucky and no damage was caused, but who wants to roll that dice? Replacement engine isn't cheap.

Yeah, my understanding is ranges 1,2,3 are ok but anything past that I’d be worried.

Yeah its not great, but here's some context:

The sale price is $55000 for 34k miles and all the options, and I'm planning on dailying it and I don't expect it to be a creampuff. Does that change anyone's view?

range 5/6 without nearly a thousand running hours after it is a typically a sign of an unknown bomb.

range 5/6 with 1000+ hours since? probably okay. most people will run from that too, though.

as far as CPO.. it's a 2013. pretty sure that's not eligible.

I'd say translation error, but..

the autologic report says the car has averaged around 10mph in its lifetime. the launch report says 100mph.

at 10mph the car was idled in a garage by someone admiring it as some kind of trophy, or in bumper to bumper traffic. both of these things are not something I'd want to deal with.
at 100mph the car was, at best, a very dedicated track car. probably also bad, but I would expect FAR more overrevs if it were seeing track use.

this reeks of tampering to me.

interesting to note -- the seller on that pcarmarket auction held out on posting the overrev report until just before the auction ended. more gigantic red flags.

this car is likely storied. I'd run.

I think I have some idea. I was looking for a clean 991.1 manual for the better part of a year. Found a handful of cars that met all I was looking for. All failed my PPI with over revs. Long story short I gave up getting my hopes up, spending $500 on PPI just to walk away. I ended up with a PDK car. It’s a brilliant transmission. I thought these cars have rev limiters? If so what is the problem?

No rev limiter if a person shifting it screws up and hits second gear instead of fourth on a downshift and lays into the throttle, on a manual transmission. Obviously not an issue with a PDK car.

I wouldn't accept that car with that DME report. Do you know how many hours are on the engine total? The Range over-revs only tag the time of the event and not the total operating hours of the engine so it's hard to say how much time has passed since the Range 2-6 event occurred. Looks like a single event that hit range 2-6. Obviously a major missed shift.

Even if the engine was unharmed by those range-6 overrevs, that DME will haunt the sale/value of the car forever. Kinda like a salvage title, in my mind.

Has money changed hands yet? (You say PPI but how obligated are you to purchase after winning that PCAR market auction?)

Could you also get an oil analysis from Blackstone to see if there are metal filings in the crankcase? (I don't know what you'll glean from it, but maybe it's helpful?)
