I just did that - Liqui-Moly 5W40 Leichtlauf high tech 5w-40. Could the high iron number be possibly from the low miles on the engine (some break-in still)?
It has more than enough miles on it that it won't be from break-in.

2006 C2S, second oil change for me. Prior to oil change it sat up for a few weeks as I slowly did maintenance over a few weekends. Then I did may 30 miles of test drives to Mae sure everything functioned as expected. Took it out and drove around the neighborhood (so no high rpm’s) to warm it up before the drain, got it up to temp. Drained oil 30-60 minutes later (should’ve done it a lot sooner). Then as I marveled that oil didn’t splash everywhere because of my goofy catch pan I almost forgot to collect the sample until it was almost completely drained. My biggest concern is fuel dilution creeping up, don’t know if my oil warm up procedure contributed to that or not. Second biggest concern is not driving the car enough.

I wouldn't worry about running DT40 longer than 6 or 8 months if you only put 1,000 miles on it. My personal data shows that the mileage interval is more important than the time interval as my 5,000 mile report after 2 years didn't look materially different than a 5,000 mile report after 6 months, not even with respect.to acidity.

I'd go to a 1 year interval in your case to get some more use out of the $100 oil change.

Well, that’s good to know. I’d rather drive it more and than stretch out the oil though. Thank you.

The reason for the high fuel dilution needs to be addressed. It should be less than 1/2 a percent.

Agree. Might have been higher than the last one because of the way he described the oil change was done this time. But that being said, the last one was higher than it should be too.

1.5% is very high fuel dilution on a port injected engine with only 1,000 miles on the oil. My DFI engine's oil has less fuel dilution than that after 5K mile OCIs even doing short trips and idling the engine with winter blend gas.

I’ll recheck my fuel trims and get a smoke machine on order to check for vacuum leaks.

Common areas for vacuum leaks are the oil fill tube and AOS vent tubes. Gas cap and oil cap are cheap and easy to replace.

If you don't find a vacuum leak, I'd jump to the assumption that you probably have one or more bad injectors and they'll need replacing.

I will probably do injectors anyway, but will prioritize the vacuum leak. Thank you Charles, Petza and Silver_tt for your pointers.

Unless I’m doing something wrong, smoke test revealed nothing. I put a latex glove over the throttle body and pumped smoke in. Nothing. Any tips or tricks to doing the smoke test on these cars that I should be aware of?

Did you prop the throttle plate open? How did you pressurize the smoke?

Yes, propped it open with a pencil. Was scared to drop anything else in there. I used a cheapo smoke machine Ingot off eBay. Baby oil, alligator clips to car battery to power it. It was pressurized with my air compressor.

I plugged the vacuum line connected to the airbox when I did it.

That setup should work. Probably injector test / replacement time now

what about gas and oil cap? I guess oil cap is proven good by smoke test.
