Got my first analysis back that has both definite known oil and known mileage. Still short on the mileage interval (didn't see much road time over the winter), bit good indicators so far:

6ppm of iron at only 1,500 miles is a high. For comparison, look at tapcon's report at 5x the mileage further down.

Keep an eye on iron and copper in the next report. Hopefully the change to LiquiMoly will improve those number so we want was in the car when you bought it that was sampled in the first oil change.

Sadly I don't know what was in the car nor the actual mileage on the oil--I just know it was greater than 1k, but likely not much greater. I suspect it might have been Mobil 1.

At least now I have a known baseline to work off of.

Yep, just see what it looks like at the next change, and maybe do 3,000 miles on the next one instead of a longer interval.

I'm not sure I'll even make it to 3k. This is car #4 (plus a bike), so I'm probably going to hit 6 months first, even though I do find nice excuses to drive it. I am subscribing to Jake Raby's "don't go over 6 months time on the oil change interval" guidance, so will likely hit that before the mileage.

Do what you think is best. I'm more a mileage than time guy and have gone a year or more between changes since I didn't get to 4k miles. No I'll effects in the UOA reports.

Hey smart guys like @IrishLegend @Petza914 and @sburke91 I have a question. In these last few UOA Reports we see lead. Yes, very low levels. Why do we see it? I have a theory. I'd like your thoughts. Thank you.

Is Irish and Sburke using a product like Chevron Fuel System Cleaner prior to oil change?

Thank you.

Lead is a component of the bearings

Seeing very low ppm lead levels like 1s and 2s is not an issue. If you start seeing high lead levels - 15, 20, 30, you've got a problem.

There could also be some lead content in the additives people are using to clean the insides of their motors prior to their oil changes.

Was definitely holding my breath a little bit, given that this was the first report I've run on the car since buying it a few months ago. A pretty short run mileage-wise, but still a decent result I'd say.

For that few miles, Aluminum, Copper, and Iron are a kind of high. At your next change interval (3,000.miles based on what I see here) I would switch oils to something with more Zinc, Phosphorus, and Moly.

Driven DT40 or Liqui-Moly or Motul xcess would be better choices.

right there with you. I switched to Driven for the oil change when this sample was pulled, but the previous oil was Mobil 1.

The additive packages in Driven and Mobil don't play nice with each other. It will take a couple oil changes to eliminate this cross pollination and before your wear metals show improvement. Just be aware.

Appreciate that heads up, thank you!
